I've noticed sometime a bit funny with SA for a while now. I've got 26
checks on SA. If for some reason I forget to put a check in maintenance
mode and I bring a server down or even reboot it, SA tends to get itself in
a pickle and recognise the check as down and/or unavailable - even
Are you pinging a name or an IP?
I have never noticed problems with a hard wired IP address but a couple
of my entries watch some PC's that are DHCP. And I ping them by name.
On occasion they get reassigned and I have to restart SA or edit the
name to get it to re-locate the new IP address
Servers Alive will resolve the name to an IP at the first occasion, this
might be the first check cycle and after an edit. So if the host you're
checking changes IP you have to restart Servers ALive OR issue a RELEASE
IP command on the telnet interface. (if I remember correctly the syntax).

At present my setup of Servers Alive operates through a modem to a Telco
paging service and thence to a cellphone capable of receiving alphanumeric
messages. The only problem with this is that I get charged for the PSTN call
as well as the text message from the paging service
