I have winbind samba (2.2.5) set up to provide home shares to users of our

The docs state when using CUPS the relevent lines of SMB.CONF

I think I figured it out. It seems like changing valid users in [homes]

did the trick. I did not want to try that because I ASS-U-MEd the double

I still have the other issue with the 12 character limit on share names, but

I just can't find the answer to solve this issue and I thought someone would
know the answer. Finally got SWAT running and configuring a clean smb.conf

quit.
log.nmb (etc/var/log/samba/) has the following;

Before you tear everything out, try starting the daemons from the command
line and look for errors.
smbd -h will show you a few helpful options.
Try running smbd -d6 and then tail /etc/var/log/samba/smbd.log for any
info.
Maybe others instances of smbd and nmbd are already running.

On Sat,
Howdy folks,
I can authenticate postfix via sasl-pam.
But if I would like to use the smbpasswd file with pam_smbpass.so it is
not working.
The strange thing is, sshd and cyrus imapd is working with pam_smbpass.so
I get this entry in /var/log/messages:

Scott,
You hopefully just need to manually create the smbpasswd file in
/usr/local/samba/private/.
Just do a 'touch /usr/local/samba/private/smbpasswd' and retry.

Thanks for the assistance!

That would help. What platform is this on? Did you build the binaries
yourself? If
Ok, so I know from `netstat --ip -lnp` that the only ports smbd and nmbd
are using are TCP 139, and UDP 137 and 138. I find it a little odd
though that nmbd is bound to both 0.0.0.0 AND my primary interface. My
problem is that I can't access shares on a windows machine unless I turn

Hi,
Does anyone know what the following repeated smb log messages
mean? or know how to check it? I got these messages repeated from time to

This depends on how restrictive your firewall rules are but why don't
you just use this:
-A INPUT -p udp -s 192.168.1.0/24 --dport 137:139 -i eth0 -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -p tcp -s 192.168.1.0/24 --dport 137:139 -i eth0 -j ACCEPT
I'm not sure what the -m stands for. You'll need to change eth0 to

No change, interestingly enough, iptables says --cport is unknown
without -m, and I don't see mention of what -m does in the man page. I
have version 1.2.6a-2 of iptables, packaged by RedHat. Looking at
tcpdump, the netbios-ns reply packets from the server are being dropped
by my firewall.

Hi!
This patch adds lp_modules() and loads all modules in lp_load() - any
comments on it ?
I'm not too sure about the place smb_load_modules(lp_modules()) is
called - do we really want to load all those modules when loading a
configuration file ?
Comments, please! :-)

The rule of thumb, as I've seen it stated in some olde Windows95
