Run a very old Samba version (2.2.5 - Yes security problems) and winbind
on two boxes. One on the same (local) LAN as the NT4 PDC, the other
(remote) on the end of an often congested link (512K)
This is part of a fairly large WAN - maybe 12 domains and the h

I am not able to view the shares on my samba server, although the samba
server does appear with a 'net view' command. When I attempt to 'net
view sambaserver' I get a network path not found message. Interestingly

As to original question, timekeeping problem can be nicely solved
by either native Windows Simple NTP (I deployed one on the job),
or by NTP. Last I checked their code was supporting dozens of platforms,
including Win. Which is a pity, code got rather ugl
Hi Everybody,
As far as I can see nobody answered my question.
Is there anobody who has an idea how to solve this problem? Or do I need to

I want to replace Active Directory with Samba (and possibly some other
tools like OpenLDAP), and Group Policy is a feature I need to have.
Hi all,
A little background first:
I am running Debian GNU/Linux Testing (Sarge).
My Windows desktop is running Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack
4 (5.0 - 2195).
According to dpkg, I have the following Samba-related packages installed:
box:~# dpkg --list | grep "samba"
ii samba
I am new to samba and am having a problem with smbd starting. It just hangs when I run
smbd -D. I set the debug level to 10 and the log file looks like this:
Adding chars 0x0 0x0 (l->u = False) (u->l = False)
Adding chars 0x21 0x0 (l->u = False) (u->l = False)
Adding chars 0x23 0x0 (l->u =
Hello,
Since I upgraded to SP2 my XP, the 'net rpc shutdown' command don't work
anymore on it...
Following Microsoft,
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/sp2otech.mspx),
they change something in the scheduler API... Can it be related ?
Is there a way to make this work again ?
Hi,
this depends on the funktion you desire i.e pdc and the entries you give
to smb.conf
if you use roaming profiles i.e /var/lib/samba/profiles
/var may be good to have in extra part ( this is be usefull for
/var/log/samba too )
or if you like to use quota in /homes this may be nice to have extr

If you want to execute a batch or command file that will update the windows

user rights and privileges so that "Everyone" or "Domain Users" can updat
I have exactly the same problem. And tried more or less the same solutions
I tried passing the shared folders through nfs on anonther samba server to
the windows clients also.
I reckon it is a faulty hard disk problem, but the fsck reports nothing. I
tried reiser and e3, but the problem persists.
