1. the server is a member of an NT4 domain with an NT4 PDC
2. accounts are in a separate trusted domain running AD in mixed mode
3. i use winbind to get the accounts recognized on my server

I tried a similar trick with the added step of changing from a tdbsam
backend to ldap and found the same windows profile issue. Strangely if
the user was a local or domain admin things were ok. I found the only
work around at the time was backup the users profile before deleting it

I am trying to get samba working on vista. My smb.conf file is at the
end of this mail. At the moment I am able to connect to my linux share
but I am prompted for a username and password first. This is as if the
server authentication is failing and it is defaulting to user
authentication.
I've setup samba to use LDAP passdb backend and it works fine.
LDAP has sambaNTPassword and more samba entities.
But I wonder if I can make samba work with userPassword only.
I think somebody is doing it and I look at their config but couldn't find
anything special.

everything works perfectly. getent returns local and DomainB usernames.
