When I join a Linux client to a domain, upon joining, I notice a dns
update request reported on the DC. It works. The client IP is handed to
the DC, we can login etc. However, we can't ping the client by its name

I know that this has been addressed before but I couldn't find a
solution. Summary: when attempting to write a dns record using nsupdate,
nothing gets written to the zone due to the error:

I Installed Samba with the repo package but then updated it and rebuild it
with the new source package from Ubuntu repo.
Regarding DNS. I did all the queries on the server itself as well as on my

I am new today here and have a couple of confusing items I hope someone
here o the list can straighten out for me.
1. The definitions of the served usershares apprears in more than one
location; in ubutu 12.04 LTS there appears to be a set of defined shares
in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file
1) samba-tool dns add dcmsc.test.inc test.inc test.inc MX 'mail.test.inc 10'
2) samba-tool dns query dcmsc.test.inc test.inc test.inc MX
3) [root@dcmsc caiman]# samba-tool dns query dcmsc.test.inc test.inc test.inc

However query for mx record are different from external server:

The user authentication is running fine against the Active Directorty, for this

I don't speak on behalf of any developers, but most times it is very difficult
to change the license of an open source project, as the consent of all
contributors would be needed which is nearly impossible. There are ways, but I
don't think it is very likely.
