bueno, revise bien que 'xinetd' este instalado y corriedo como servicio:
ps -ae | grep xinetd
si resulta que si, entonces revise el documento de configuracion de swat
(/etc/xinetd.d/swat):
# default: off

failed.)
I am using samba 3.0.21c on Gentoo Linux kernel 2.6.15-r1. I can send the
contents of my smb.conf or other config files if needed.
Please help, I am quickly getting to the end of my rope.

If I just leave the value at '/' then it does not complain.
why is this now happening and will using '/' as the separator cause issues when
joining a windows 2003 ADS domain?

just a question, and I apologize if this was clarified already, are you trying
to use swat from the same samba server of from another machine?
if you want to use it from another system you might want to try removing the
only_from= 127.0.0.1 line.
but if that is not the case ignore my suggestion.

whoops, forgot to copy the list on it. sorry.
Well, an update. I can log in to the console using any domain profiles
this is what the samba by machine name log for my system looks like
(log.machinename) :
[2006/03/02 06:51:10, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:reply_spnego_kerberos(322)
make_server_info_pac failed!
[2006/03/02 06:51:11, 1] smbd/sesssetup.c:reply_spnego_kerberos(322)
make_server_info_pac failed!
ok, I have rebuilt ssh with the flags for Kerberos and pam support.
what changes should I make to the pam.d/sshd file?
