Jeremy,

I'm having a problem with the valid users directive working. I have an Accounting
share that only the Accounting department should have access to. However, I am unable
to lock the directory down so only they can access it. I am running samba-3.0.0-2
from an RPM on RedHat 9.0. Below

I'm having an unusual problem with MS PhotoDraw opening and
saving files to my Samba server. When I open the file, all's fine.
When I try to save the file, I get an error message that says Unable to
save the file. Filename could not be found. At this point I have to

Any idea when the RC1 binaries are going to be finished?

Doh! Is this still relevant if RC2 comes out today or tomorrow?
Besides, if you had said what your platform is we might
I'm having some unusual results with smbmount. I've tried mounting
multiple server shares from multiple servers with the same results.
Here's my command line...

I have been searching a bit for documentation on the use of LDAP in
conjunction with winbindd. Can anyone please point me to further
documentation (if it exists) on the use of these two products together
in Samba 3 and what functionality they provide as a whole solution? I
know how winbind works

I have a printer that requires each user to have the ability to modify
his/her defaults without administrator intervention. This printer is a
Canon ImageRunner 5000. Each user has the option of setting the
Printing Preferences to either print directly or to a mailbox on the
printer. Up to this
I'm having an unusual problem with my new samba servers. Notice,
servers is plural, meaning all of my new servers are experiencing
exactly the same problem at different times throughout the day, which
leads me to believe that the problem is not with samba but with my
Win2k server. However, I
I had similar problems with getent on one of my servers. After some
investigation, I had forgotten to edit /etc/nsswitch.conf to add winbind
to the users and groups there. Wbinfo worked great, nothing from
getent. After the change, and a restart of winbind (don't know if that

I have exactly the same errors in a similar configuration (RH9, Samba
3b3). When my samba server gets these errors, it stops allowing new
connections to services but continues to respond for existing
connections. Winbind appears to fix itself after 40-45 minutes
without any intervention.
I am having a problem with the valid users directive on two of my shares. By
viewing my logs, it appears winbind is failing even though my username and password
are correct. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated... below are my smb.conf
and the tail of my log.winbind. Thanks!

I have a mixed network of WinNT 4.0 and WinXP clients with a couple Win2000 and Samba
2.2.8 servers. I am going to add a couple new Samba servers to the mix and am
considering the 3.0 code. My question is: Does the Samba server have to be the PDC
for all of the clients to process the login
After reading the documentation and watching the
traffic on my new Samba server, I believe that in order for winbind to work
correctly, it needs to be constantly able to connect to the main W2K server to
retrieve password and username information.
My question is:
If I cannot assure this
