joined my machines (windows and unix) to the domain using the configured
administrative account. Is the machine accounts created in this step given
kind of privilege 'boost' over common user accounts?

'smbd' and 'nmbd' do behave well however 'smbclient' does not, so some of the
other binaries neither i suppose.
Running 'smbclient -s /etc/samba-pdc/config' gives me:
