Mates,
Have 2.2.8a on SuSE 9.0 pro. I have a hp lj4 connected to the parallel
port on the machine. Printing is with cups. After setting up the printer on
the SuSE box I could print from the SuSE box but not from the XP clients.
Under the printers share in smb.conf I set path =
Here are some basic suggestions:
Make sure the user has read/write pemissions to use the directory. That is
he is either the OWNER of the directory or the member of a GROUP that has
access to the directory. Presuming you used useradd to create the user and
directory, this shouldn't be an issue.
Mates,
I have set up a backup scheme that uses rsync to backup shares from my
mdk 7.2 box to an old ibm box that is running win95. Basically I use
smbmount //backup/d /mnt/backup -o password= to mount the ibm's d:/ as
/mnt/backup. How can I test to see if the drive is still mounted without
) but its not such
a good idea i suppose.
Hope that helps!

Mates,
Maybe I'm missing something very, very basic! I cannot see the share on
my XP boxes. smbclient gives the following:

Got a positive name query response from 127.0.0.1 (

I still think that imap is still what your looking for. You already have the
teacher accounts on the linux box. imap would put the mail in the
/home/(teacher's) directory on the server. you could deny imap to the
student account. Teachers would still have access to their mail from
anywhere as long

Hello again! It has been quite some time since I was here and waded the
waters to set up bind8 and samba 2.07 on my trust mdk 7.2 box. (by the way,
it is still working like a champ) over 400 days uptime before the last
extended power outage. Well,
, Gephardt, and Hollings should be
gotten out of power. This will require conscious political activism.
