Theese logs i got on my domain member samba 3.0.0 server which is
not connected to LDAP server - it use as password server a PDC
and pam_ldap to have local accounts. It was compiled with ldapsam
option but there is no LDAP options in smb.conf.

I have tried to build rpm of samba-3.0.0 from spec file. *.spec
file is from samba sources and contains only to modifcations
to ./configure:
--with-expsam=mysql \
--with-ldapsam
This is error:
+ mkdir -p /var/tmp/samba-3.0.0-root/usr/bin /var/tmp/samba-
3.0.0-root/usr/sbin
+ mkdir -p

I have a problem with compiling samba 2.2.8 on rh 7.3 (all
erratas applyed, kernel 2.4.20 with ac2 patch).
When i do rpm -ba samba.spec, i have error:

You probably should post your smb.conf section that uses the %u variable.
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s/bin/false -M %u
logon script = %u.BAT

How long are your usernames actually?
Does it also appear when you create a really short one?
the shortest contains 4 characters, the longest - 16.

I have installed samba 2.2.6.
And in my /var/log/messages i got:

manager - access is denied.
I got proper entiers in /etc/smbusers
root = admin Administrator
linux 2.4.18 with acls samba 2.2.5 rh7.2
