Slow logins are often DNS configuration problems. This is true for any
Active Directory setup - Windows Server or Samba4.

Hi All,

but the logon takes around 20 seconds. Is this normal or logon process should
be much faster? What could be the reasons?
Thanks in advance and regards,
Fabian

Dear all,
I'm having some problems with my samba-ldap configuration. The server is a
domain controler. Most of the time there is no problem. But when some users
try to logon, the workstation gets very slow.
After some testing i found the cause. When a user is a member of many ldap

our Windows domain. It is not unheard of for it to take upwards of 3 or
4 minutes. The server is a member of the domain and the users are using
an AD account to sign onto the server locally. Were could I being to

I have seen this one and even asked at a conference about it. Check the

Hi all.
Everything has been running great, untill 2 weeks ago when I applied redhat
errata including a new kernel. (done it loads of times before)
Rebooted and all seemed ok (it was half term for me, so maybe 20 users in at
the very most)
It wasn't until last week people started to complain

One of my Win2000 clients takes about 5 minutes to logon
(and logoff) my Samba PDC. Other Win2000 clients are fine
so this may not be samba related but wanted to ask anyhow.
I have turned off the enable offline folders on the Win2000
machine so their is no synchronization stuff going on.
How much data is stored on the desktop? Each time you logon and or logoff, Windows
updates the profile on the samba server, and the profile includes all files on the
desktop. So if have tons of files on the desktop, it'll make it slow.
Other than that, I don't have a clue.(tm) =)

Also check the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet File folder. By
default this is stored in the Profile and if it is set to have a large
cache and the user spends a lot of time on the web then it will take a
long to download when logging in/out.
