I am having the same problem with one of my xp boxes. The only solution i have found is that when the machine boots you must first login to the Local Administrator Account not the domain. then you can log out and log onto the domain as a normal user. In my investigation i have found that

If only 1 or 2 users log into that box, you can set those users up as local admins on that XP box, log in as one of the users you set up and go to Control Panel-Admin Tools-Services : open up properties of the workstation service, click on the Recovery tab and set First Failure, Second
