I make a recycle bin as follow:
config-file = /etc/samba/recycle.conf
vfs object = recycle
recycle:subdir_mode = 0770
recycle:keeptree = Yes
recycle:repository = Recycle Bin
recycle:versions = Yes
recycle:directory_mode = 0770
But testparm shows:

to check for the right syntax
- use 'man smb.conf'
- 'testparm -vs' will list _all_ options set (also the default ones)
So 'testparm -vs | grep config' could lead you in the right

config file =

vfs object = recycle
recycle:subdir_mode = 0770
recycle:keeptree = Yes
recycle:repository = Recycle Bin
recycle:versions = Yes
recycle:directory_mode = 0770
