Ok, I am trying to use smbclient (specifically for the puroposes of tar
mode) to access VSS shares on a Windows Server 2008 64bit machine. I
get the name of the directory from the windows machine under 'previous
versions'. I am able to access that share from multiple windows
machines, even XP

I'm working on a server that was upgraded a few weeks ago (Linux
Mandriva was reinstalled with a more up-to-date Samba version which is
3.3.2).
Now, roaming profiles no longer work. I even wonder what would be the
proper to way to test them. Workstations are running Windows XP.

If you use samba4 you can replace microsoft AD DC controller with samba.
I've done this on a FreeBSD machine for a small company (around 5
people) and it works quite well. I currently have some problems getting
roaming profiles to work (and no time for it ;-)).
After setup you need a windows
