Volker Then you're missing a step in your descriptioin. The Samba RPM's claim that they are built from the SRPM samba3-3.5.2-43.el5.src.rpm, not that SuSE listed SRPM. If you're using a tool like mock to build from the SuSE SRPM, it's still not the SRPM actually used to build your binaries: the SRPM used to build the actual binaries is the SRPM that mock, itself, regenerates and can be found with the binaries in /var/lib/mock/epel-5-x86_64/results/ or wherever your build tool may put them. If this isn't what's happening, then something else fascinating is going on, and I'd welcome your explanation. I'm sorry if it seems pesky on my part: I do try to dot my i's and cross my t's about software source code and build procedures, especially for something so system-critical as Samba. And I *have* seen smart aleck software packagers put in '%ifdef and %ifarch statements around source components of their SRPM's, and even write self-modifying .spec files. That programmer and I had to have a talk about that little stunt: he wrote a bit of '%setup scripting that updated the release number and built from the new .spec file, but then he got the termination one and recursed the system into destruction, compiling as root, which I'd previously explained was a really bad idea. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba

The fiber link is on campus and thus you control any right-of-way issues, correct? If this is the case, upgrading the link speed on the fiber is definitely the way to go. Although the buildings are on the same campus (multiple buildings about 8 total that we occupy and only parts of building for most of the buildings) we don't have control over the network. That is in the hands of the campus IT organization and they like things done a certain way. We can light some fibre, but it's only point to point and we don't have that much fibre running to our building to connect all the buildings, plus the expense would be astronomical as we can't tie into their network and so connection in the other buildings would be limited. Since they are finally deciding to upgrade the core switching to 10GbE, they are possibly putting our building on the list to get a 10GbE link first. I think that would alleviate the biggest part of the problem, as we suspect that most of the storage will sit idle and not really accessed. Since all the desktops are only running 100 Mb connections, it gives us enough concurrent connections that we feel comfortable with. [Samba] Winbind is kill me!
Hi All, I am using CentOS 5.4 (Old-Out-Of-Date) and $ rpm -qa samba\* samba-client-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 samba-common-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 On Thursday, at a customer's site, I did my CentOS updates and got the above sort-of-new version of Samba. Problem: when CentOS booted back up, suddenly the only thing anyone could get into was their homes share. If you browsed over to the server, you could see all the shares, but if you selected any one of the shares, except your homes share, you got told that the share did not exist. This affected all my Windows client and both my Linux clients (cifs). To workaround the problem, I stopped winbind (/etc/rc.d/init.d/winbind stop), and everyone was able to access network shares again. As soon as winbind started back up, you were back to only being able to browse your homes share. If power goes out and the server reboots, winbind will restart and I will be dead meat. Do I even need winbind? Anyone know how to permanently fix this? I have access to the prior build of Samba. Would it be best to just revert to it? Re: [Samba] AIX 5.3 Active Directory Synchronisation using Winbind
Hi William, I appear to have resolved the main issue. I have had to include both idmap config ULTRADATA : schema_mode = sfu and winbind nss info = sfu in the smb.conf file. Without either of these settings wbinfo -i does not work correctly. I found this fix listed in a posting labeled Windows server 2003 SP2, SFU 3.5 and Samba 3.0.28. When I have the entry in smb.conf I can readily resolve AD users and login via a telnet session using their AD password. I now only have one issue left and that is the allocation if the primary group id from that specified in the SFU setup for a user account. The user id as specified in the SFU setup is being used but the group id is not. EG: wbinfo -i abloggs returns abloggs:*:1300:1::/home/support/amu:/bin/ksh The correct uid of 1300 is used but the group id of 208 that is set is not. I have tried using the setting of idmap config ULTRADATA : range = 200- in case this controls the uid and gid. However the gid stays set to 1. Over the next few days I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling samba. Setting smb.conf to the required settings that I have discovered before I join the domain and or start samba/winbind etc. Regards, Craig Green Support Consultant - Unix Ultradata - Vision to Reality +61 3 9291 1742 www.ultradata.com.au -Original Message- From: samba-boun...@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-boun...@lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of Craig Green Sent: Friday, 9 April 2010 1:31 PM To: 'William Jojo' Cc: samba@lists.samba.org; 'John Welch' Subject: Re: [Samba] AIX 5.3 Active Directory Synchronisation using Winbind Hi William, OK. However I am still having some issues, though they are now slightly different from what I was originally having. Here is the output from wbinfo -i and lsuser -R WINBIND with slightly different settings in smb.conf. The first is with the following entries commented out ;idmap config ULTRADATA : default = yes ;idmap config ULTRADATA : backend = ad ;idmap config ULTRADATA : range = 1000- ;winbind nss info = sfu Without these implicit settings then the shell is definitely /bin/false. $ wbinfo -i jcitizen jcitizen:*:1009:1:John Citizen:/home/ULTRADATA/jcitizen:/bin/false $ lsuser -R WINBIND jcitizen jcitizen id=1009 pgrp=domain users home=/home/ULTRADATA/jcitizen shell=/bin/false gecos=John Citizen login=true su=true rlogin=true daemon=true admin=false sugroups=ALL admgroups= tpath=nosak ttys=ALL expires=0 auth1=SYSTEM auth2=NONE umask=22 registry=WINBIND SYSTEM=WINBIND or compat logintimes= loginretries=4 pwdwarntime=21 account_locked=false minage=0 maxage=0 maxexpired=1 minalpha=2 minother=2 mindiff=4 maxrepeats=2 minlen=8 histexpire=8 histsize=2 pwdchecks= dictionlist= fsize=-1 cpu=-1 data=524288 stack=524288 core=2097151 rss=524288 nofiles=-1 time_last_login=1267768837 time_last_unsuccessful_login=1270702351 tty_last_login=ssh tty_last_unsuccessful_login=/dev/pts/2 host_last_login=jcitizen.ultradata.com.au host_last_unsuccessful_login=jcitizen.ultradata.com.au unsuccessful_login_count=0 roles= pgid=1 SID=S-1-5-21-2908653425-2220236570-374614302-7401 If I activate these settings within smb.conf (uncomment them and stop/start samba), so as to get the relevant home dir, login shell, etc from the AD values set within SFU, then the shell is /bin/ksh and the home dir is correct. These are the values set in the Unix Attributes tab of the properties settings of the user on the AD server. Re: [SCM] Samba Shared Repository - branch master updated
Okay, okay - will remove them again. But I have to state that each torture output call seems to have a different policy regarding newlines at the end or not: e.g. torture_comment(tctx, Test sec_desc level\n) - here it's needed. Is there an easy rule when yes, when no? It would be nice to see only one method to don't have to worry about this.
