 Hi,

some weeks ago I wrote to this list about a problem I have saving print
 properties (samba 3.4.7 - ubuntu-lucid + XP-pro)

I never managed to solve it, I also tried with samba 3.6+ (Ubuntu
precise) but had aother problems I wrote about in this list ending
 opening a bug [1].

Now I had to go back to my 3.4.7 installation. I'd like at least to
bettere understand how print properties work so that I can cope better
 with the situation.

In my setup the drivers are distributed by the server, client do
realize they need the driver and server correctly serves them, the
problem is that the page format is alwayes set to 'letter' rather than
 'A4'. I have roaming profiles.

I really need to fix this even thought some workaround.

I can't answer the other questions, but I do have some instructions for
setting the default paper size (note these instructions were written for
XP):

After you click Finish and the driver is copied, select Properties on
the printer. Say No when it asks if you want to install the driver. Go
to the Advanced tab and select the driver from the dropdown list. Click
OK and the name of the printer will change to show the driver you just
installed. Right-click the printer again. On the General Tab set it back to
its original name. Select Properties again and go back into the
Advanced tab. Now there is a new option Printing Defaults. Click
Advanced on the Printing Defaults page. NOW you can choose the default
options for your users - like A4 paper size. Nasty, isn't it?

Can someone tell me which are the components that store the print
properties? If this is already explained somewhere, please give me the
URL, I wasn't able to find it.

 1. If I browse \\server\(server and fax) and I configure properties,
 where
are the changes saved?

 2. When an end user configures the printer where does ther properties
 should
go (I have roaming profiles)? In the profile? in a registry?

 3. If the domain/local Administrator changes the properties in the
 printer
on the client via settings | printers how does that change relate
 to
settings in 1 and 2?

 4. In a working setup, is there a way to force the paper format *after*
 a
user has already logged in and changed the properties?

thanks in advance for any explanation
 thanks

Is there any work around ?

Is the [print$] path populated with a writeable x64 directory?

The Samba spoolss server presents itself as 32-bit (Windows NT x86)
by default, but you should still be able to upload 64-bit drivers via
the \\$server\printer - server properties dialogue box.
Alternatively, the spoolss server can advertise itself as 64-bit with:

Hannu, There was a change within a fortnight of the samba 4.0.0 release
affecting ACL controls that restricted anonymous LDAP
searches, if you are able to review the mailing lists for samba and
samba-technical, you'll find the details. The intent was to
restrict access to confidential password information, a good thing. I recall a
release/upgrade is scheduled for January 22 which may
provide more granular control for ACL's.

This is wrong. In fact I do. Or more preciesely I have tried to use Samba 3.6
with Windows 8 Roaming Profiles. In fact I did run into exactly the same
problems and reported my issues here:

https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2012-September/169080.html

I have provided full debug logs as well but got no single reply yet. Looks like
Roaming Profiles are not very widely used. For me this is still one of the best
options to make sure user data is backed up. I am also using it for mandatory
profiles in educational environment in order to enforce clean profiles on each
login.

Currently with Windows 8 it seems to be broken. Maybe it's related to SMB2 but
Windows 8 reports The parameter is incorrect on a number of files during
upload. In fact the files are stored on the server and then they disappear
entirely again.

I discovered that on Windows 8 there are some issues copying folders with mapped
names in desktop.ini (everywhere where LocalizedResourceName attribute is used)
and thought it might be related. But as said I did not get any response yet.

Re: [Samba] [solved] SMB2 CREATE + ACCESS_SYSTEM_SECURITY

2013-01-02 Thread Steve Tice

Can anybody provide the expected response to an SMB2 CREATE request that

interested in cases where the SMB client is connected as an authenticated
user with administrative (superuser) privileges on the share, and has made
the request on a directory. Should such a client expect full (read/change)
access to the SACL (under any conditions)?

The question above is theoretical in nature. Practically speaking, does
any
version of the Samba server respond correctly to the request described
above? I have a Windows application that makes such a request, and have
tested it against Samba server versions 3.5.10-125.el6 and 3.6.7. I keep
seeing a response of NT_STATUS_PRIVILEGE_NOT_HELD, and think that's not
the
correct response when the client has superuser privileges - but perhaps my
expectation is wrong. If I make the same request while connected to a
share
on a Windows server, the response is NT_STATUS_OK.

Is there a Samba server configuration change I could make that would
affect
the behavior? Is there any setup work to do prior to sending the SMB2
CREATE request (for example, adding a privilege)?

With all humility, please accept my apology for making a false claim on this
topic. In my test bed, another factor (specifically a FUSE implementation) was
found to be the root cause of the unexpected server behavior. With the root
cause now corrected, my test bed with Samba 3.5.10-125.el6 is behaving as
expected and is passing the previously posted test case.

To summarize, there is no Samba bug associated with clients that want
SYSTEM_SECURITY access to a share.

AFAIK, Samba recycle bin only affects to files only, not directories.

If you set recycle:keeptree = yes, the parent directories on a
deleted file are also copied to .recycle when the file is deleted.

You change the settings on the server with a user who has

Author: Jeremy Allison j...@samba.org

Fix bug #9196 - defer_open is triggered multiple times on the same request.

get_deferred_open_message_state_smb2() is buggy in that it is checking
the wrong things to determine if an open is in the deferred state.

It checks if (smb2req-async == NULL) which is incorrect,
as we're not always async in a deferred open - remove this.

It should check instead state-open_was_deferred as this
is explicity set to 'true' when an open is going deferred,
so add this check.

commit 04388adfe82bd0fa52c30074c501b2db87ee3c65
Author: Jeremy Allison j...@samba.org
Date: Fri Dec 14 08:39:26 2012 -0800

Fix bug #9196 - defer_open is triggered multiple times on the same request.

get_deferred_open_message_state_smb2() is buggy in that it is checking
the wrong things to determine if an open is in the deferred state.

It checks if (smb2req-async_te == NULL) which is incorrect,
as we're not always async in a deferred open - remove this.

It should check instead state-open_was_deferred as this
is explicity set to 'true' when an open is going deferred,
so add this check.
