[Samba] Printer problem(?)

2003-01-15 Thread Dimitrios Stergiou

Dear all,
here is a situation we are experiencing:

We have a Solaris 8 server, using samba 2.2.7a, and windows xp SP1 clients.
The problem we have is that when someone prints from the xp box, if he selects
more that 1 copies, the printout does not collate.

No mater if i check or uncheck the collate box, the printout is:
page one of copy one
page one of copy two
page two of copy one
page two of copy two

instead of:
page one of copy one
page two of copy one
page one of copy two
page two of copy two

Do you think this has something to do with the samba/lpd setup, or ... ?

Thanks,

Supposing that the /var filesystem is on a different disk/partition, i would
guess that you have a filesystem problem or disk hardware problem

Try to fsck your /var, and also look at /var/log/messages for posible disk
problems

When the Apple IIc was introduced, the informative copy led off with a couple
of asterisked sentences:

It weighs less than 8 pounds.*
And costs less than $1,300.**

In tiny type were these fuller explanations:

  * Don't asterisks make you suspicious as all get out? Well, all
this means is that the IIc alone weights 7.5 pounds. The power
pack, monitor, an extra disk drive, a printer and several bricks
will make the IIc weigh more. Our lawyers were concerned that you
might not be able to figure this out for yourself.

** The FTC is concerned about price fixing. You can pay more if
you really want to. Or less.

Now, from what I understand any new files that are created within this
share should have the ownership be the following username:emergpo.
Unfortunately, that is not happening, what is happening is that both the
user and the group ownership bit are set to the creator of the file.
Which is HIGHLY annoying since my phone is often inundated with calls
asking why they can't access a file located on said drive.

Hi there,
the usual solution that i enforce is (for your case):
# cd /share/purchasing
# chgrp -R emergpo emergpo
# chmod g+s emergpo

This will result to the group ownership to be propagated to every
directory/file created

How to make all files written or edited always belonging to group
special? I have tried force group = special but it turned out anyone
has access to the directory, eventhough they're not listed as member of
 group special in /etc/group.

i would suggest here a:
chmod g+s ourdir

this will allow everything created under the ourdir directory to have the same
group ownership as ourdir

What we are seeing is that they store their settings under the profile in a
dir called Local Settings that does not move along with the profile.

Thus when a user setup the client in one machine, then when he goes to another
he has to re-configure outlook

[Samba] Microsoft outlook or outlook express and roaming profiles

2002-10-30 Thread Dimitrios Stergiou
Hi all,
we are using samba 2.2.6 with windows xp SP1, and roaming profiles.

We would like to have email settings (servers/usernames etc) with the roaming
profiles, but outlook (either microsoft, or express) store their settings in
a path that is not included in the profiles

we do not care about the actual emails, since the mailserver is IMAP, we only
care about settings

Has anybody implemented anything?

Cheers,
