[Samba] Weird behaviour of one Win7 user
Hello list, I have a samba 3.5.6 running on a Debian squeeze machine. This box is running since more than a year without any problems. Since a couple of days we have the following problem. One Win7 user doesn't get his user profile any more The log file tells: [2013/03/04 07:43:14.641151, 1] auth/auth_util.c:580(make_server_info_sam) User WIN7MACHINE$ in passdb, but getpwnam() fails! [2013/03/04 07:43:14.641191, 0] auth/auth_sam.c:493(check_sam_security) check_sam_security: make_server_info_sam() failed with 'NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER This happens from any machine the user concerned tries to connect the domain. Other Win7 users do not have the problem regardless what machine they use. The user exists in tbdsam and in the unix passwd file as does the machine. Everything worked well until Friday, when we experienced this problem. Friday the user first experienced this problem, however after several retries to log in the domain it suddenly worked again. Today (Monday) the user couldn't get his user profile anymore and couldn't connect to the domain. Neither samba configuration, nor user settings have been changed. The problem occured without any configuration or permission changes. I have googled around a lot. However I didn't find any hint to solve my problem. Any suggestions are welcome. Is it possible to easily delete the user and re-create the account in Samba? If after deleting the account and re-creating the problem still exists, then my guess must be wrong. If it fixes it, then you know the account was damaged. In either case, it narrows the list of things to test considerably. --- But I can certainly see where nuking the user and recreating them might not be a trivial process. If so, hopefully others will suggest better/more precise steps. -Greg Hi Greg, I also thought about doing this. However, this would mean that we have to reconstruct all user settings in that profile. I would rather like to ovoid that since this would be very time consuming. I hope there are some suggestions to come out without having to do that. [Samba] Strange behaviour of clients after changing Full Name via pdbedit
Hallo, after having changed the Full Name of a user via pdbedit the user profile of this user is not loaded properly any more by the XP clients. So we renamed again back to the original Full Name and the profile could be loaded. However, something went wrong All settings like network drives were gone. Then we restored the whole profile folder from backup (The user was logged out). Again, however, we got troubles. Situation didn´t change. The profile was loaded but the settings still were gone. We had to restore the drives manually. In Addition now the client has only an English keybord layout and there is no possibility to get the original German one back. There is nothing to see in the systray nor can the classical view of the control panel be switched on to change keybord layout for this specific user. The local Admin can change everything and has the right keyboard layout. We had to change the Full Name of this user, because Windows 7 doesn´t support Umlauts in Full Name and we want to move this user from XP now to Windows 7 in near future. Our samba version is 3.5.6 on a debian squeeze system. [Samba] Problems with roaming user profiles
Hello, I have migrated a samba server (version 3.idon´t remember) from a RHEL box to a debian 6 box (samba version 3.5.6-df), having changed password database from smbpasswd to tbdsam, set the old SID to the new samba. Everything works well, machines are known, new machines (XP) can be added to the domain, users can work on their shares and those they have to work on. However _some_ users cannot load their server based user profiles others don´t have this problem. I have tried: map the (secondary) Unix group users to Samba Domain Users and a lot of permission changes. Nothing worked. The smbd.conf section for homes is as follows: [homes] comment = Home Directories valid users = %S read only = No create mask = 0660 force security mode = 0770 directory mask = 0770 browseable = No Unix permissions didn´t change exept that now the primary group of the individual users is private and users is the secondary group. I am really a little desperate getting out of that. What should I try. [Samba] Problems with migration from SuSE 10.0 to debian etch
Hello, after a total crash of hardware, we had to reconstruct our Samba PDC from tape. Since the old installation was already pretty old (SuSE 10.0) we moved to Debian etch. I did the following. I migrated the machines from the old passwd and shadow files to the new ones. Then I copied all data and the whole directory /etc/samba to the new machine. Then I set the permissions of the data to those of the unix and smbusers respectively. The uids in /etc/passwd and those in smbpasswd for machines and users are the same as they where in the old system. Now to the problems: (1) If I change the password of a user the user cannot log in anymore. The same is if I create a new Samba user. (2) Some times, however not allways, the user profiles cannot be loaded from the server. On the other hand all users can access their data from the shares as they could on the old system. Does anyone have any hint for me to solve the two problems above?
