[Samba] Errors... unknown problem?

2005-08-09 Thread Eric G Ortego
My network currently uses samba version 3.0.14 and doesn't seem to have any
problems but alot of my logs repeat the following error message:

[2005/08/09 09:29:42, 0]
rpc_client/cli_trust.c:change_trust_account_password(248)
2005/08/09 09:29:42 : change_trust_account_password: Failed to change
password for domain SPICE.

There shouldn't be any passwords changing.
What causes this and how might I verify that there is or isn't a problem?

I found several others who have asked the same question of this same error
but have not been able to find an answer or a solution.
Cheers,
Eric G Ortego

Re: [Samba] Printer driver auto upload.

2004-12-07 Thread Eric G Ortego
In my opinion this is a completly un-acceptable way to install drivers
to a print server.
Im sure the Greyed out'ness is caused by some obscure registry
setting MS has added in one of the latest patches to XP to further
hinder anyone useing a samba server.

WHY CANT WE JUST PUT THE DAMN FILES ON THE FUCKING FILESYSTEM LIKE
EVERY NORMAL APPLICATION WOULD?! Oh, well that would be entirely
too easy.

 Yes, I can.

Do you have a line like
 printer admin = xyz
 in your smb.conf?
 Yes I have.

I made some tests with other computers (Thanks GSX server !) And it works, but
with windows 2000 only. Not XP

 With 2000, everything works fine...
With XP, I can install drivers that have been installed with windows 2000, but
I cannot install drivers on the server with XP. The New Driver... button is
simply gray. (See the procedure at :

   Hello !

How can I configure samba to upload a particular driver when installing a
   printer shared. (cups + samba 3 + cups-pdf).

In my particular case, I share a cups-pdf virtual printer and I would
like samba to send the HP Color Laserjet 8500 PS driver when I connect
   to it.

I've searched the web but didn't find any clear answer. It seems that a

  lot

of things are depreciated now, so please give me the tips or an updated
howto page for doing this !!

   Thanks !

To be a little more precise...

The best howto I fount is :
  http://www.netadmintools.com/art258.html

However, when comes the step to click the New Driver in the Advanced Tab,
The New Driver button is in gray and I can't click on it.

Of course I have read/write access to //server/print$/WIN32X86/

  What should I do ?

If not temporarily change to: read only = no

[Samba] LINUX ONLY, CANNOT JOIN ANY SAMBA3 DOMAIN

2004-08-05 Thread Eric G Ortego
I have been beating my head on this since the release of 3.0.4, or
some time in May.
I have 2 domains. 1 production, 1 test. My production domain is useing
LDAP backend and has (too)many windows clients joined, XP , 2k , 98.
And 2 other linux servers joined.

One of these linux boxes I have replicated with my problematic box.
The only thing diffrent about the replicated box is that its a ppc
with a different hostname. Same distro identical smb.conf files
everything I can beside hardware and binaries.

However I cannot join the domain with the ppc. I can't join the
production domain or the test domain. I have set the test domain up
with/without ldap, with/without tdbsam, with/without smbpasswd.
NOTHING WORKS!

Im so damn confused I don't know what to do and its driving me crazy.
I even went so far as to offer money ($40 IIRC) on irc for anyone who
could help me join a samba3 domain with this box, hours later still no
luck.

I don't have each and every error Iv'e encountered along the way, I am
fairly certain that this is a bug but I don't know how to track it
down. The most common error I get is username/password related. I
would appreciate any help on identifying what is going on here.

Re: [Samba] Problems with WIN2K accessing Samba 3.0.1 as PDC

2004-01-06 Thread Eric G Ortego

Matt wrote:

Hello.

I am almost at the end of my rope right now. Here is the deal. I initially
installed Redhat 7.1 with the version of Samba server is came with (2.0.7 or
something) I setup everything fine, but when it came to setting the machine
up as a PDC, I recieved an error that could be fixed by a patch.
Instead, I decide to re-install RH 7.1 without Samba, and get the latest
distro. I download 3.0.1 and install. Once again P2P networking works fine,
but when I get to PDC again... This time, All I get is Login Error: Username
is invalid and or bad password. I have all of the required files with
/usr/local/samba/lib/smpasswd, /etc/passwd with all of the right information
including a Machine account for the WIN2K PC. It is all formatted properly.
The error in the NMBD log repeats itself like 12 times with a code 0x12
whenever I try to login. I have literally gone through EVERY HOWTO - Samba
PDC on the internet, and can't get it figured out!
When I punch in root and type the wrong password, it gives me the error
right away, yet when I key in the right password, the drive lights on both
machines start and about 10 seconds later is gives me the error.
To add fuel to the fire, I have tried this with

RedHat 7.1
Slackware 9.1
Debian 3.0 Rev2
Mandrake (newest release)
Same error. So it ain't my Linux.

You configured itso it is your linux :-P

Anyone... please?

You will need to post more detail.
Does testparm tell you anything looks unusual?
Have you created smb users, or do you just have
/usr/local/samba/lib/smpasswd ?
Did you create them by editing /usr/local/samba/lib/smpasswd ? or with
the smbpasswd utility?
Have you created a config file or you useing the default?
Have you read the config changes from samba 2 - 3?
Did you manualy add the machine account?
Have you done any ntgroup maps?
Are you allowed to see the shares with smbclient?
try smbclient -N -L SERVERNAME
then smbclient -L SERVERNAME
as root useing the smb domain Administrator 's password;
Are there any diffrences?
