i get these errors:
smbd[5096]: create_policy_hnd: ERROR: too many handles (1025) on this
pipe.
I believe this has been fixed in the latest version of cups.

changing your print driver. We had the same issue with a XP HP
print driver and downloaded a newer driver from HP and the problem went
away.

it is not the DNS/DHCP server then things can slow down. I believe it
is a reverse DNS issue.

Also if your underlying file system could make a big difference. For
instance the default formatting and mounting of a XFS formatted drive
may not give you the best performance.

name, you will be able to print again... well for how long is
another question, until you have to switch back to the original names.
My advice is to stick with samba 2.x until we see how well the next RC
version of samba works. The 2.6 kernel rocks!

A couple of thing that will affect your performance are:
getwd cache = yes
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=65536 SO_RCVBUF=65536 IPTOS_LOWDELAY
use sendfile = no
lock spin time = 15
lock spin count = 100
