[Samba] cannot login to swat as root

Samba 3.0.22 configured as as BDC. Can login to swat as any user *except* root/Administrator. What is even more puzzling is we have another machine with identical (well, almost it seems) configuration and no problem logging in as root. Could someone please advise where I should look? There
