When i go to Yast Control center i can see that the user log in is set to
/bin/bash and this is the default.

Is this what you meant?

Where else to find smbmnt? 'coz when i try to open up /usr/bin/smbmnt it tells
me that "COULD NOT FIND THE PROGRAM smbmnt.

[Samba] samba mount setuid problem

2004-03-23 Thread geralds
 Hi
 whenever i try to mount a samba share which is a samba server i get an
 error message that says "smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct
 mounts(500, 500) smbmnt failed1"

 Anybody there who can help please?

i've consulted sambalist and adviced to visit the foolowing site below

http://www.bnro.de/~schmidjo/faq/index.html#faq9

and it says;
login as root and change to the directory where this tools resides (/usr/bin
?)
do a 'ls -l smbmnt', you'll see something like -rwxr-xr-x

So when i try to do the ls i get a message that says "COULD NOT FIND THE
PROGRAM"

What i need is to see the samba shares automatically when i logon as a normal
user. and anothe thing when i see the shares; ie. as root ; the files tha
are op[ened by OpenOffice .org can't be opened, instead i get a message that
says, "AN UNRECOVERABLE ERROR HAS OCCURED. ALL MODIFIED FILES HAVE BEEN
SAVED AND CAN ONLY BE RECOVERED AT PROGRAM RESTART" and when i restart the
program and open the file again the error message is displayed.

Anybody with an idea please.

Well i have seen the site and am going to try out what they are saying.

On the othe hand when i log in on the workstation as an authenticated user and

that's why i tried to use linneighborhood to try and mount the shares
manually and i get the ...suid root .. message.

Hi.

when i try to open a document file on a linux workstation, which document
 file is a share found on the samba server, the file does not open up and i
 get a message that reads "AN UNRECOVERABL;E HAS OCCURED. ALL MODIFIED FILES

As per now i can't open some of the files that are run by the program "Open

Nevertheless,when i open these file as a normal user on the samba server

I wonder what brings about this problem.

Any help please.

I tired "smbmount " where stands for the username.
Ten i get a message that says "could not resolve mount point".

But also i think this has to be automatic in a way that when a user mounts a

valid.

my smb.conf for the printer is as follows;

[print$]
comment = Printer Drivers
path = /var/lib/samba/drivers
write list = @ntadmin root
force group = ntadmin
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775

vain.

Could any body out there help please, am stuck. How can i adjust my

is there any parameter i can add to this line so as to overcome the problem

Hi All,
my problem is I am unable to configure an NT user to access a UNIX Tru64
5.1b share from their PC. I am running Samba 2.0.7 and it runs as a domain
member.

Here are the steps I have completed without success:

Assuming is the NT username used to log into the NT workstation/PC.

1. Created UNIX user
2. Created UNIX directory /usr/users//input
3. Appended following line to a user name mapping file defined in smb.conf
with the parameter "username map = ...":
 =

Note: The user name mapping file already contained an entry for another user
and the one above was appended to the file.

4. Added the following to smb.conf:

[]
comment = 'etc'
path = /usr/users//input
valid users =
public = no
writable = yes
printable = no

5. Restarted the samba daemons.

Can anyone spot what the problem is? Have I missed out a particular step?

In desperation I tried adding to the samba password file by
running
smbpasswd but it would appear this user is already a member. This I
concluded
from the fact that I typed when first asked for the existing
password
and when I entered the new password twice the following messages were
displayed.

"error connecting to #.#.#.#:# (Connection refused)
unable to connect to SMB server on machine #.#.#.#. Error was : code 0.
Failed to change password for statdat"

Note the # symbols represent numbers which I have physically replaced with
#.
I believe they are addresses of some sort.

If you know what the problem is please can you let me know as soon as you
can. Your help with be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping this is something very simple that can be quickly knocked on the
head

Many thanks

Raymond

[Samba] RE: samba problem

2004-02-16 Thread geralds
Hi Alexander,

The kind of firewall i have uses the basic iptables which came with the
installation CDs of linux-SuSE.

I installed SuSE 8.1 which has a firewall that has to be activated. But now, u
know, i can't find the file containing the iptables so as to adjust the
rules. When i try "iptables -L" in console mode i can see all the rules.

I think i need to add some new rules in the iptables so that samba works
properly. What's yo opinion?

So, could u be knowing the configuration file and path for the firewall rules?
My kernel is 2.4.19.
'hope to hear from u any time.

My opinion is that try delleting the machine name using the 'control center'

I'm running samba-3.0.1-2 on a redhat machine. it acts as a pdc
for our domain. clients are w2k machines.

when administering the w2k boxes via the mmc one of the machine
accounts shows up in the domain users list. it is shown together
with it's ending "$". I removed the machine from the domain and
added it back however the effect stays.

Additionally it is *sometimes* not possible to map drives to shares
on that machine. Users receive a message that "no error message was
found" or sometimes that an "unknown internal windows 2000 error" has
occured.

The machine account was created manually just the same way all the
others were made. It's line in /etc/passwd is completely unsuspicous.

Any help would be appreciated!

best regards, Oliver
