As an alternative, I've found much free ware as I
avoid buying Windows utils when I can.
maestro nfs.
I did tests, and Samba was faster (after serious
tweaks like TCP window size, etc...) so I stuck with
Samba even though it has some leaks with XP
xsmbrowser works great in KDE and GNOME.

with gnome2 on my slackware 8.1 box I can use smb:// in the file
manager to view the network. I know that kde also has the ability to
