Maybe I should point out here that the same scanner (with the same USB
cable!) works well on my laptop: Ubuntu 10.10, with
xsane: 0.997-2ubuntu3
libsane: 1.0.21-2ubuntu2
Problems arise only with my desktop: Ubuntu 11.10, with
xsane: 0.998-3ubuntu1
libsane: 1.0.22-2ubuntu2
The same
The EPSON is the only device on the USB bus.

I understand the same problem affects many other users of Ubuntu
11.10, either with the same scanner or with different devices.
Is this a bug of SANE ?
