In his kingdom lived a robber named Bhukkunda who was also a poet. He was at one point caught by the police and was sentenced to be executed. However, he sent the following zloka to king Bhoja and was consequentlyreleased. bhaTTir naSTo bhAravIyo 'pi naSTaH bhikSur naSTo bhImaseno 'pi naSTaH | bhukkundo 'haM bhUpatis tvaM hi rAjan bhabhApaddhatim antakaH sanniviSTaH || "BhaTTi is dead and so is BhAravIya, BhikSu is dead and so is BhImasena; I am Bhukkunda and you are BhUpati, O King, and Death is on the path of bha, bhA, etc." BhaTTi, BhAravIya, BhikSu and BhImasena are all names of poets. The story is from Bhojaprabandha. Mr. Toke gets full marks. Full meaning - Bhatti is dead. Bhaaraviiya also is dead. BhikSu is dead. Bhiimasena also is dead. Bhukkunda I am. There are several methods by which words are compounded. Depending on the nature of compounding, there are different names for these. These are generally - dvanda, dvigu, avyayiibhaava, tatpuruSa, karmadhaaraya and bahuvriihiH. One poet has composed this beautiful shloka incorporating all these names. dvandohaM dvigurapi chaahaM, madgehe nityamavyayiibhaavaH. tatpuruSa karmadhaaraya yenaahaM syaaM bahuvriihiH.. If we compare the ease with which Kalidasa deals with meters of different variety (within the same piece) as in Shyamala Dandakam, it raises a doubt (given the fact that Mahishasura Mardhini is written in the same metre througout). But Adi Sankara is not known to have written a work without some reference to Advaita and in Mahishasura Mardhini this is noticeably absent. Can someone clarify this please?
