I have come across two statements in Prof. P.Sriramachandrudu's book on Jagannatha 
Padita. 

1. Kalidasa in “Raghuvamsa” says that Sugriva was installed by Rama in place of Vali 
just as one (verbal) root is substituted for another root. This is a simile based on a 
grammatical rule according to which the root “Bhu” comes as a substitute for the root 
“As.” 

Kindly explain if Kalidasa used a clever ploy saying thus. (The author doesn't explain 
it).   

2. The Vedantic and grammatical senses are combined in one (Jagannatha) verse (I' 
tried to ITRANSify the verse from plain English; if there are any errors, please 
correct them):

gunavR^iddhi pare yasminnaiva staH pratyayAtmake.

budheShu saditi khyAtaM tad brahma samupAsmahe..

We meditate upon the Absolute Being which is nothing but consciousness, which is 
without qualities or increase, and which is known among scholars as “Sat” i.e., 
Existence.

The same verse can be interpreted in a different way with a reference to grammar:

When the suffix called “Sat” (“Satr” and Sanch”) according to a sutra of Panini, is 
used there will be no “Guna” (i.e., “a,” “e,” and “o”) or “Vriddhi” (i.e., “Aa,” “ai,” 
and “au”).

Please explain the mudane grammatical version of the meaning of the verse (The author 
doesn't explain either meaning).
