Position: Linux System Administrator
Location:  Fairlawn, Ohio
 Contract to hire
 6 months to perm
  Summary:
  This position is responsible for monitoring, recommending, documenting and 
implementing system enhancements to continuously improve system availability 
and security.
 This position is responsible for  installation, hardening, integration, 
patching, implementation, performance, and maintaining  Linux computer systems.
 This position is responsible for maximizing Linux system availability and 
performance.
 This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to the IT 
staff as it relates to Linux internals: This may include but is not limited to 
High Availability options, API testing and recommendations, Filesystem 
encryption, Web interfaces as well as Disaster Recovery recommendations and 
implementations.
 This position is responsible for  timely and accurate problem resolution while 
engineering quality short term and long term fixes with an eye towards 
maximizing uptime and ensuring that established controls and procedures are 
followed.
 This position is responsible for supporting the installation of third party 
packages.
 This position is responsible for providing guidance in and leveraging of Red 
Hat Satellite Services, RPM’s and configuration consistency.
 Accountabilities:
  Accountable to understand and take measures to ensure Sterling meets all 
Linux related Service Level Agreements.
 Accountable for support and fine tuning of operating system/kernel parameters 
to increase efficiency, track critical metrics and achieving maximum return on 
computer system investments.
 This position is responsible for monitoring, tracking and trending Linux 
system performance
 This position is responsible for identifying system problems and managing the 
resolution of these problems through vendor technical support.
 This position is accountable for maintaining system integrity and following 
published Server Configuration/Compliancy Standards.
 Accountable for supporting penetration testing and engineering/implementing 
solutions or mitigating controls as issues are identified.
 This position is responsible for supporting timely operating system security 
patching as required by varying compliance initiatives such as PCI and SOx.
 This position is responsible for support and implementation of the Security 
policies and Controls as defined and developed by Sterling’s Information 
Security team.
 Accountable for participating in an on-call rotation and being readily 
available especially during the critical retail sales seasons. 
 Accountable for team participation with other team members regardless of 
technical acuity or personality traits.
 Accountable for understanding and supporting IP routing, IPTABLES 
configurations as well as transport layer load balancing using IPVS.
 This position is responsible for providing technical programming insights and 
recommendations to the IT staff regarding Bash/Korn/Perl shell scripts, System 
Monitor interfaces and other Linux commands available at the command prompt 
including VI/VIM, Curl, SVN/CVS/RCS and parsing/piping various command line 
verbs and intrinsic functions. 
 Experience with network services including DNS (BIND/named), SMTP (Sendmail, 
Postfix), NTP, LDAP (OpenLDAP, Active Directory), HTTP (Apache, HAProxy). 
Experience with SSL protocols and certificate management.
 Experience with packet analysis/capture tools as a troubleshooting 
methodology, including tcpdump and wireshark.
 Accountable for understanding, following and assisting to mature Sterling’s 
ITIL process and procedures.
 Accountable for providing reliable, timely and persistent inter-host 
processing including an understanding private/public key management.
 This position is responsible for reviewing, recommending and supporting the 
backup and recovery teams to ensure to ensure ease of system recoverability, 
including bare-metal restores.
 This position is responsible for timely and accurate completion of other tasks 
as defined by Management.
 This Accountable for support of all IT projects that utilize the services of 
Linux systems.
 Ability to pay attention to detail and meet deadlines

 Position Requirements:
  Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or equivalent
 6 years of experience in Information Technology positions
 Experience with installing, patching, upgrading, administering, and 
maintaining Red Hat Linux.
 Experience with project support and team participation 
 Desired:
  RHCE
 Familiarity with virtualization: VMWare, Citrix, KVM
