*Position: Linux System Administrator* *Location: Richmond, VA(locals only)* *Duration: 6 months contract* Face to face interview Local candidates or people who can interview onsite at their own expense are required. We are looking for a Linux Systems Admin to help build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our client’s Linux infrastructure. This individual should possess good oral and written communication skills as well as be able to work independently. *Responsibilities* • Manage and monitor all installed Linux systems and infrastructure • Install, configure, test and maintain Linux operating systems, application middleware, application software and system management tools • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution *Requirements *(must haves) • Solid scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python) • Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Linux/*NIX based environments. • Solid experience in the administration and performance tuning of J2EE application stacks (e.g. WebSphere, Tomcat, JBoss, etc) • Solid experience with file systems and maintenance of same (e.g. nfs ,ext3, etc) • Solid experience with Webserver setup, configuration, i.e. Apache HTTP, Oracle Web Tier, etc • Linux kernel compiling knowledge/experience • Experience with monitoring systems (e.g Nagios) *Other Requirements *(great to haves) • SUSE linux distribution experience (with s390 mainframe support a plus++) • IBM WebSphere Application server (Network Deployment) • Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) *** The position requires some weekend and after hours work. Some travel will be required.
