Location: NYC, New York
Duration: 1+ year
Qualifications:
· BS or BA in information Technology, Computer Science or
related field
· At least 5-7 years experience developing large scale database
backed web applications using open source tools
· Expertise in Java or other object-oriented languages
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Experience with or knowledge of: Linux, MySQL, SOLR, Tomcat,
Hadoop, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON, Subversion, Maven, Firebug
· Ability to write efficient SQL and good general database design
skills.
· Proficiency with J2EE architectures and frameworks
· Experience with web services design (Soap and REST), both as a
client and a server.
· Experience developing in a standards based environment using
version control software such as SVN and CVS and IDE’s such as Eclipse or
NetBeans
· Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
· Proficiency in front-end web technologies, particularly HTML,
JavaScript, CSS
· Ability to work independently with limited supervision and learn
quickly in a dynamic environment
· Excellent troubleshooting skills and a creative attitude when
tackling novel and sometimes mysterious problems.
· Experience developing consumer facing web sites and experience
with web publishing platforms is highly desired
· Ability to learn new technologies and introduce new ideas to the
team
Responsibilities:
· Prototype, develop, design, and test product server side
features as defined while adhering to company standards
· Design and develop for high performance, heavy traffic, and high
availability. You must know when, why, and how to design a cache, optimize a
query, and eliminate a bottleneck
· Be an active participant in an Agile/SCRUM environment
· Break down projects into tasks with time estimation
· Proactively identify and communicate issues
· Work in a team environment with other developers, designers,
product managers, business analysts
· Troubleshoot technical and functional issues
· Collaborate with product managers to define product requirements
