*Role - Sr Java / Hadoop Developer*

*Location: Dulles VA *

*Duration:  12+ Months Contract*


*Process:  Straight to an In-Person (Java Test / Panel Interview)*

*Must have experience with Big Data (Hadoop MR, Hive, Pig, Spark)*

*Role:*

• Design and code backend Java applications and
services. Emphasis is placed on implementing maintainable, scalable, Big
Data systems capable of handling billions of requests a day.

• Analyze business and technical requirements and
design solutions that meet those needs.

• Mentor and train less experienced team members.

• Collaborate with project managers to develop and
clarify requirements

• Work with Operations Engineers to ensure applications
are operations ready and able to be effectively monitored using automated
methods.

• Troubleshoot production issues related to the team’s
applications.

• Effectively manage day-to-day tasks to meet scheduled
commitments.  Be able to work independently.

• Write technical specification documents.

• Collaborate with programmers both on their team and
on other teams



Skills and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or technical
field. Master degree preferred

• 5+ years of experience designing and programming in
Java in a Unix/Linux environment

• Experience with crafting the right architecture to
meet functional requirements

• Working experience with Big Data and technologies
(Hadoop MR, Hive, Pig, Spark)

• Must have extensive technical knowledge and
experience with distributed systems

• Must have strong programming and troubleshooting
skills.

• Experience with system performance optimization

• Must have a solid understanding of object oriented
programming.

• Must have a working knowledge of application design
and development processes and methodologies.

• Experience with automated, build and deployment tools
such as Chef, Jenkins and Maven.

• Solid understanding of RDBMS and general database
concepts.

• Software design methods and techniques

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent problem-solving skills

*Overview:*

*· Participate and provide leadership in the system design and
development activities especially focused on Big Data Analytics and Entity
Resolution*

*· Produce and develop software in an agile environment, using
modern techniques and processes (e.g., version control, branching, merging,
bug tracking, etc.)*

*· Participate and lead, when required, daily agile development
coordination meetings, and incorporate agile processes into development
activities*

*· The qualified applicant will be responsible for designing and
developing Hadoop and related technologies solutions for enterprise class
application using java technologies in areas of Entity Resolution, data
visualization and data analytics*

*Qualifications:*

*· BS in Computer Science / Engineering, MS preferred*

*· 9+ years’ experience in software development using Java*

*· 3-4 years’ experience using SQL, preferably in Oracle
environment*

*· Must have very strong Java development skills. Spring/JPA
experience is highly desired*

*· Understanding of Big Data analytics algorithms such as genetic
learning, machine learning, data mining*

*· Familiarity with Hadoop unstructured database architectures,
complex analytics algorithms, data visualization and presentation
techniques*

*· Prior experience as a Hadoop and related technologies developer
- Hadoop (MapReduce) and at least one of the following:  HBase, Hive, Pig,
Cassandra, Mongo DB*

*· Strong XML processing experience such as XSD, XPath, XSL, XSLT,
etc.*

*· Web Services / SOAP / REST / XMLRPC experience*

*· Application and understanding of Relational Database Concepts*

*· Excellent communication: must be a good listener and be able to
clearly communicate ideas with team members, project/product teams, and
external groups*

*· Experience in Agile/SCRUM is desired*

*· Practical experience in performance testing and tuning is
desired*

*· Ability to work in a high-pressured, tight-deadline environment*

*· Superior written and oral communication skills are essential *

*· Must be able to multitask efficiently and progressively and work
comfortably in an ever-changing data environment*

*· Must work well in a team environment as well as independently*

*· Excellent verbal/written communication and problem solving
skills; ability to communicate information to a variety of groups at
different technical skill levels*
