The primary responsibility of a Product Specialist is to ensure the availability and facilitate the productive use of a product for Application Teams or end users. The Product Specialist may own part of a product, all of one, or several products depending on the nature of the product(s) and their use. The Product Specialist requires significant to expert experience and skills in the product supported. The Product Specialist will usually also have significant experience in the operating environment(s) (e.g. HP/US, NT, MVS, etc.) on which the product is implemented. If the product is one that was internally developed, the supporting PS should also have most of the skills of a Programmer. The Product Specialist is responsible for collaborating with Technical Architecture Specialist, System Specialists, Programmers and vendors to ensure and enhance the use of the product and effect migration to new versions of a product. PS5 Years of Relevant Experience: 9 plus years. Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study. Role Description: All roles specified in the PS4 plus the following: Responsible for functioning as the Technical SME on an enterprise-wide system. Responsible for implementations of products/services that involve significant Commonwealth and Federal oversight. Provide direct technical expertise to Executive applications involving national security. The selected candidate for this position will be working on the development and maintenance of Cognos reports developed for PDE’s PIMS application. The candidate will require 5 years of experience with Cognos v8.4 and v10. There are over 1,000 reports that have been developed for this application. This position will research report issues that arise and look to improve the performance of the reporting environment in general. Reports must be written to PDE standards and be well documented. Five years of experience writing SQL queries is required in this position. MS Office experience is also a requirement of this position. This new implementation is shifting our data warehouse and reporting infrastructure from DB2/Hyperion to Oracle/Cognos. The nature of our data is also changing, as data elements are changing purpose and semantics as part of the transition. BWC’s new system will have a transaction data store (TDS), operational data store (ODS) and a newly designed Oracle enterprise data warehouse. The Cognos developers will be primarily involved in developing reports using Cognos Report studio and performing Unit testing. They will collaborate with framework modelers, data analysts, business analysts, testing specialists, and business customers to create business reports that are accurate, reliable, attractive, timely, and relevant.
