Job Description:

We are searching for a back-end service developer proficient in
architecting, implementing, and testing RESTful web services.

We are developing a searchable catalog of dynamic research artifacts that
will be used by multiple laboratories and groups in our research pipeline.

The application architecture relies on micro-services that interact with a
combination of relational and graph databases.

We have existing services, but future services are green field, hence you
will have influence in their design and implementation.

You will work with other front-end and back-end developers to design these
services based on the application’s requirements.

You will be expected to independently implement parts of these designs,
providing both solutions and test cases to identify regressions.

Our ideal candidate is experienced in developing and testing using Scala
and the Spray framework.

Exceptionally strong Java or Groovy/Grails developers may also be
considered, but they must have an interest in Scala and functional
languages.

Required Experience: Scala, Java, or Groovy/Grails.

Absolute preference is given to Scala developers who have developed and
tested services using Spray.

Web Services design Preferred Experience: Neo4j Postgres

We would also accept an Intermediate Level Candidate with the right
experience.

Sample responsibility:

*Sr. Application Developer*

   - Developed fault tolerant workflow orchestration system using Amazon
web services (AWS) Data pipeline platform. Implemented highly reusable
activities that can be swapped with other activities whenever business
needs changes. Also wrote backend types projects using Hibernate and JPA
framework that was utilized by activities to read and persist data. This
types project was loosely coupled with activities and could be easily
swapped with anything else if required. Both these projects used Spring for
dependency injection and Spring Data implementation of JPA.
   - As a part of Big Data and NoSql development (Beginner level) using
Scala language, I worked on Apache Hadoop, HBASE, Oozie, Sqoop and spark
frameworks. Implemented OOZIE workflows that used Apache Sqoop and PIG to
transfer data from oracle to HBASE using nightly jobs run as oozie
   coordinator.
   - Implemented REST based APIs using swagger annotations that returned
JSON data from oracle using JAX-RS. Also wrote REST client using Spring
REST Template to consume services and parse them into Java objects using
   Jackon JSON framework.
   - Did production support on Spring MVC based web system that used Spring
MVC along with backbone js, twitter bootstrap, REST services and Hibernate
for ORM. Also maintained a Java Swing desktop application that utilized
SOAP based service calls written using Apache CFX as web services framework
   and Hibernate as ORM framework.
   - Utilized Behavior driven development (BDD) frameworks like JBehave,
Cucumber, FunSpec (scala tests) along with selenium web driver to write
Automation tests. BDD tools were used to fetch input data and validation
criteria from an internal website written by business users and provide
test reports easily understood by any user.
