Position: Oracle DBA Duration: 3 months Location: Atlanta, GA We are seeking a senior level Oracle DBA to consult our Atlanta-based client in the process of migrating and upgrading several databases from Oracle 9 and 10 to 11.2. IMPORTANT: The ideal candidate will have performed similar migrations within the past two years. Anticipated Engagement Term The migration project is underway and scheduled to be completed April 30, 2014. Environment Overview Databases are hosted in Atlanta and serve our client’s customers around the world including Asia, India, Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Most of these databases are in a 24x7 Production environment that cannot tolerate extended outages, even for upgrades; therefore, upgrades need to be performed with minimal downtime and limited, if any, impact to the client’s customers who rely on the availability of these databases. Subject databases are primarily hosted on a combination of Solaris 8, RHEL 4, and Veritas VCS. Migrations will include server to server and server to virtual. Subject databases are primarily Oracle 10 but some are Oracle 9. Target platform will be Oracle 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 5.8. Upgrade path will be a combination of migration based and in-place upgrades. Overview The Senior Oracle DBA Migration Consultant will assist with database upgrades/migrations and perform the following tasks: • Develop and document database migration requirements, strategies, and dependencies • Develop and document compatibility issues/risks with detailed remediation plans/steps • Develop and document detailed migration/upgrade plans, to include: • Appropriate back-out strategy, plans, and detailed tasks • Individual tasks with specific commands/steps to be issued during the actual event • Work with appropriate teams including other DBAs, Networking, Storage, Servers, Operations, Development • Perform the actual upgrade/go-live • Create, Update, and/or Edit Documentation related to DB Upgrades • Create, Update, and/or Edit scripts required for Database Administration (bash, KSH, Perl, SQL) Description • This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Database Services. • This position supports database functions as required for software development, QA, and production users • Occasional weekend work. • This position requires critical thinking, logic, and extreme attention to detail. Ability to perform well under immense pressure in a fast-paced, 24x7 production environment is critical to success in this position. • This position requires excellent verbal and written communications. The ability to clearly articulate complex ideas in multiple formats including in-person, using whiteboards, via conference calls, via desktop sharing, via projector for audiences both large and small • This position requires a very strong desire and ability to write extensive documentation using tools such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Visio, and MS PowerPoint. Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) • Plan, test, and execute Oracle database migrations and upgrades • Develop, code, test, and implement scripts required for migrations, upgrades, or as needed. Experience • Hands-on, real world experience on multiple database migration/upgrades of critical systems • 8 years experience as a Senior Oracle DBA with appropriate prior experience leading to Senior Level • Creating and building Oracle databases in a virtualized environment consisting of automation and orchestrated delivery mechanisms • Extensive experience upgrading Oracle databases from v10 to v11 • Strong experience administering Oracle 9 and 10 on RHEL 4 and 5 • Strong experience administering Oracle 11 on RHEL 5 in a VMware ESX 5 environment • Extensive experience creating complex shell scripts from scratch on RHEL 5 • Some experience with Solaris 8 • Some experience with Veritas VCS • Strong experience with Oracle GoldenGate preferred • Some experience with Oracle DataGuard • Strong experience with Oracle Real Application Testing (RAT) • Strong understanding of PCI compliance requirements Knowledge and/or Specific Skills • Excellent organization and communications (verbal and written) skills • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical users • Ability and desire to write extremely clear documentation and detailed technical, step by step procedures • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities • Ability to work effectively in a multinational environment • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio • Ability to effectively interact with others using tact and diplomacy in elevated situations Thanks & Regards Daniel Hoffman - Staffing Manager Manifest Technology Direct: 612-287-5488 Email: daniel.hoff...@manifesttechnology.net This email message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
