Title: Senior Linux Admin posted on 2014-04-01 09:00:47 Job Description:Hi, *Position:* Sr Linux Administrator/Server Administrator *Location:* Allentown, PA *Duration:* 13 months contract *LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY ONLY U.S.CITIZEN OR GC* This position will be a part of the Server Administration team who are responsible for providing operational support for the Linux/Unix infrastructure that makes up the private cloud that hosts PPL's business application environment. The primary hosting platform runs on HP C7000 blade enclosures however support will be required for our legacy PA-RISC and Dell x86 hardware. Primary job responsibilities include server operating system setup, administration, troubleshooting and performing server migrations to our private cloud as part of our data center migration (both P2V and V2V experience required). In addition, this position will support the deployment of Red Hat Satellite into the environment. Additional responsibilities include performing storage provisioning, zoning and troubleshooting of server storage issues as required and providing secondary support for Windows operating system where possible The successful candidate will be a motivated, self-directed team player who can bring second and third level technical experience into the team and provide a can-do attitude. Job Requirements: *Required Qualifications*: 1. Five plus (5+) years of hands-on technical experience in an enterprise server environment of 500+ servers 2. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to think strategically 3. Strong written and verbal communications as well as interpersonal skills. 4. On-call support 24x7 as required along with evening and weekend work when required 5. Must be able to achieve and maintain the required NERC-CIP, Nuclear Data Access, and other corporate or departmental certifications, training, and/or clearances needed to have appropriate accesses to the PPL environment *Technical Qualifications:* These are listed in order of importance, but note that not all qualifications are required in order to be considered for the position: 1. Technical knowledge and experience with Red Hat Linux (5.x, 6.x) and/or HP-UX 11.x and secondary skills in the Windows OS environment (Windows 2003, 2008 and 2012) is preferable 2. Experience deploying and working with Red Hat Satellite, Centrify or other LDAP integration tools for Linux is preferred. 3. Experience working with HP blade enclosures (C7000, 460c) and boot from SAN technology 4. Ability to perform storage provisioning, zoning, troubleshooting of the storage/SAN environment and perform performance analysis on a storage/SAN environment (IBM SVC, IBM XiV, IBM Storewize V7000) 5. Experience with VMWare ESX 5.0 and 5.1 clustered environments including HA and DR experienceI expect to have the formal RFP out this week for an opening on my Infrastructure Operations team at PPL, but because of the immediate need, I wanted to give everyone a chance to get your resumes in for my position early as I need to act fast to fill this role. The RFP will be for a Sr Linux Administrator with the formal requirements attached, but this is what I need in your candidates in a more candid form: Technically sound in the setup, configuration and troubleshooting of Red Hat Linux 5.x and 6.x and some experience with other Unix flavors (preferably HP-UX, but Unix is Unix.) Understands storage and SAN configurations enough to troubleshoot problems related to Linux blades, boot from SAN and multipathing as well as replicated storage HP blade chassis experience. I mean real experience working on them, not just giving me the information from the HP website. Experience with Red Hat Satellite or other automation tools and experience with any LDAP adapter to AD from Linux Ability to document and create new processes and procedures to drive efficiencies by thinking out of the box Real experience with VMWare ESX.
