* Knowledge of Data Persistence and Retrieval Capabilities, Relational
Database Design and Integration, and OLTP and OLAP design principles



* Knowledge of the Solution Development Lifecycle



* Experience in at least one of the following disciplines: Multi-tier
Enterprise, Application Development, Middleware Capabilities, Object
Relational Mapping, Business Rules Management Systems, Business Process
Management Systems, Server and Storage Infrastructure, or Distributed
Networking



* Excellent communication Skills, both written and verbal



* Excellent research skills to evaluate requirements against technologies
and design patterns to produce appropriate Solution Designs for Data
Persistence and Retrieval



* Ability to evaluate new Data Persistence and Retrieval technologies and
design patterns for adoption into the Enterprise Architecture set of
standards



* Experience supporting and developing for DB2, SQL Server, Oracle and
MySQL platforms



* Experience using ERwin or similar tool to generate logical and physical
data models.







*Major Responsibilities *



The Data Architect is responsible for data structure design, and database
architecture. Translates business needs into long-term architecture
solutions. Defines, designs, and builds dimensional databases. The Data
Architect is responsible for developing database design blueprints,
evaluating hardware and software platforms, and integrating systems.
Evaluates the reusability of current data for additional analyses. Conducts
data cleaning to rid data systems of old, unused, or duplicate data.
Reviews object and data models and metadata repositories to structure the
data for better management and quicker access.



*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: *



* Act as a solution advisor to IT Project Teams



* Perform the role of Solution Architect as part of the AAP Enterprise
Architecture Engagement Process:



* Participate in Functional Requirements Gathering for business solutions



* Lead Technical Requirements Gathering for business solutions



* Perform Impact Analysis on proposed Business Capabilities



* Lead the creation of the Data Persistence and Retrieval aspects of
Solution Designs as part of a project team



* Recommend appropriate Data Persistence and Retrieval technologies and
patterns for the implementation of a Solution Design



* Integrate solution design artifacts into the documentation library that
makes up the Enterprise Architecture



* Participate in the AAP Enterprise Architecture Core Team with all
associated duties:



* Participate in Design Reviews for IT projects under design



* Participate in Code Reviews for IT projects under implementation



* Research and recommend new technologies for adoption into the Enterprise
Architecture set of standards



* Create Reference Models for, and facilitate the application of newly
adopted technologies



* Research new Data Persistence and Retrieval solution patterns for the
implementation of IT enabled capabilities and recommend patterns for
adoption into the Enterprise Architecture set of standards



* Create Reference Models for and facilitate the adoption of new solution
patterns



* Develop new skills to stay current with the changing IT and Business
landscape



* Maintain the EA roadmap which defines the IT strategy for technology
implementation and retirement



* Participate in IT Process Improvement



* Provide mentoring to junior Data Architects.



* Monitor and take appropriate action to maintain integrity of the
databases including security and privacy issues.



* Participate in eCommerce support on-call rotations.



* Support existing Kettle and Python reporting job and create new ones as
needed.



* Lead modeling activities, perform detailed data analysis and develop the
dimensional data model.



* Evaluate existing database structures and recommend improvements.



* Perform proactive SQL tuning as warranted.



* Suggest improvements to physical data models including Indexes,
Partitioning and data access patterns.



* Ensure that both the Logical and Physical Data Models meet performance
requirements and account for space constraints
