This candidate will be supporting the Primary Engineer. They want to see
candidates ASAP and want to start ASAP (will need to do DT and BG check)



· On-site M-F in West Akron, OH (prefer local candidates or
candidates that will relocate to the area)

· Interview Process: 1 phone screen, 1 face to face (for the right
candidate, they will do skype interview if they can’t do face to face)

· At least 4 to 6 years of experience (not an entry level position,
want someone fairly experienced)

· Good strong understanding of cellular wireless technologies,
CISCO connected grid error experience is a huge plus but not needed

· Strong background with Cisco Nexus is a huge plus (7k and 9k
platform)

· Good interpersonal skills

· Team size: couple dozen

· This project will go for at least 18 to 24 months and then a
great possibility for extension thereafter if resource does good work.
Project goes through 2024, so could be very long-term for the right
candidate

· On-call support needed for upgrades and testing (needed only 3 to
4 times a year)





*JOB SUMMARY*: 
This position is accountable, under general supervision, for the
installation, configuration and maintenance of complex data communication
facilities used in the FirstEnergy Wide-Area Network. Data communications
circuits are critical for Business Units to perform their functions and
require 24 hour monitoring and support.
• Work with Ethernet LAN interfaces, router and switch configuration and
WAN interfaces
• Investigate device operational failures, alarms and performance.
• Diagnose root cause of device failures or performance anomalies.
• Remedy failures and performance issues on data devices/systems.
• Install/upgrade/support data hardware, systems and software.
• Maintain data hardware/software inventory.
• Maintain documentation for all systems/hardware being supported.
• Provide off-hours or weekend hours support as needed by project
requirements

*CANDIDATE SPECIFICATIONS* --
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Networking or related discipline or
equivalent work experience in a large-scale CISCO based Wide-Area Network
environment.
• CISCO CCNA and/or CCNP certification preferred.
• Experience with Cisco Nexus 7K & 9K platforms required
• Experience with Cellular wide area communications and Cisco CGR platforms
preferred
• Experience with Alcatel Lucent SR and SAR systems preferred
• Strong knowledge of network infrastructure platforms and their management
applications (CISCO DWDM SONET, VoIP, etc.)
• General understanding of LAN/WAN topology (routers, switches, Ethernet,
wireless, firewalls, etc.), including diagnostic procedures and tools
(CISCO TAC, CTM, CTC, CISCO Secure, HPOV, NetScout, Alcatel Lucent SAM)
• Strong knowledge of interior and exterior routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF,
BGP).
• Strong knowledge of MPLS, VRF and Frame Relay technologies.
• Solid knowledge of IPv4 IP addressing and management software (DHCP and
DNS).
• Strong background and experience with personal computer hardware,
operating systems and application software (office productivity tools)
• Work experience in a Data Communications-related field,
utilizing/demonstrating technical skills is preferred

Job Summary – (Role Summary)
Responsible for the design, engineering, implementing, deploying,
monitoring, analysis, documentation, maintenance and problem resolution of
domestic and international network facilities. Escalate critical or chronic
operational network issues; escalate the issues with vendors as appropriate
and initiates actions to further improve efficiency of support functions or
network performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – (Key Activities)
• Participate in design, architecture and engineering activities in
identifying, building, implementing and deploying new networking solutions
at the data centers and at all corporate locations, including CROs.
• Provide technical support for ongoing network activities including Gen
updates, upgrades of network components, new network installations, and
network documentation.
• Respond to network problems escalated from the network operators and
engineers and follows through to resolution; also provide consultative
expertise to other groups within IT to resolve general system support
issues
• Maintain knowledge of national and international network standards as
well as the activities of the organizations defining those standards and
the impact on strategic global network direction.
• Evaluate the impact of proposed or required changes (internally and by
vendors) especially in the areas of hardware, software, performance,
maintenance and cost; provide recommendations to management with an impact
assessment.
• Oversee the monitoring and reporting of second level support for network
systems; and seek methods for improvement.
• Ensure the stable performance of the systems through the monitoring,
analysis, identification and resolution of issues.
• Provide technical direction and training to more junior level network
engineers
• Provide technical consultation in new systems development and enhancement
of existing systems related to network requirements.

Experience –
8+ years progressive work related experience in network system
architectures with demonstrated mastery of technical and business knowledge
and understanding of multiple discipline/processes related to the position.
Experience in VoIP (Voice over IP) implementation, deployment and
management for a large enterprise is preferred.

Technical Skills and Knowledge –
• Demonstrated proficiency in the implementation and maintenance of global
integrated network systems.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of network technologies:
? Operating Systems/Applications – Microsoft Server, Novell Netware,
Windows NT/2000, Unix
? Communications/Protocols –TCP/IP, MPLS, Frame Relay, VPN, WiFi, VoIP
? Hardware – Cisco Routers, switches, Cisco NEXUS, Firewalls
(Cisco/CheckPoint); F5 Load Balancers (LTM/GTM); DNS appliances, IDS/IPS,
Wireless Controllers and WAPS.
• Demonstrated knowledge of system integration issues.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and
executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
• Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for the
purpose of providing information to clients, vendors, senior management and
staff.

I am looking for a network engineer that is strong WAN experience.
Ideally, someone who has implemented SD-WAN technology.  Aside from the
normal routing and switching skills, we need someone who is familiar with
WAN optimization systems such as Riverbed or Silverpeak.  Firewall
experience with Palo Alto Networks.  The routing/switching vendor used here
is Brocade (that’s the challenging part as most people have experience with
Cisco, or only want to work on Cisco).

Must Haves:


The main area of focus is on SD-WAN (experience with Riverbed, Silverpeak,
or Talari) Any routing/switching and firewall experience is fine as long it
is a seasoned person who has worked on large networks. Strong Wan
experience/ implemented SD-WAN technology
WAN optimization systems such as Riverbed or Silverpeak
Palo Alto Network Firewall
Brocade would be nice
