The ideal candidate will have experience specifically within the public sector, preferably State or local government. *Responsibilities:* Performs in a technical application developer role for the project. Working closely with client service providers, project management, and IT personnel from participating agencies, actively participates in the technical software design, development, test, and implementation of the project application. Develops and maintains software components, web services, and other technical artifacts that comprise the application. Contributes to the overall technical design and architecture of the application in collaboration with the Technical Architect role. Develops and maintains as needed/required technical design documentation including physical/logical application architecture diagrams, data base schemas/models, information architecture designs, integration and interaction diagrams, application hosting and connectivity designs, and other technical design documentation. Works closely with the Business Analyst role and end users as needed to ensure that all defined functional and non-functional requirements for the application are accommodated in the application. *Qualifications:* - A minimum of (5) years of hands-on experience in *web application software development* with a demonstrated concentration of experience with *Java centric applications* within a *Service Oriented Architecture* (SOA) is required. - Experience and knowledge of all aspects of the software development life cycle (*SDLC*) including applications design, software development, quality assurance, change management, and release management. - Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with end users, direct management, and other project team members as needed/required. - Ability to work independently, use reason and judgment to overcome obstacles, and perform under time constraints while addressing competing priorities in a high impact position. - Customer focused with excellent oral and written communication skills within a business and/or technical context is required. - Ability to translate and communicate highly technical concepts, information, plans, and procedures to both highly technical personnel and non-IT business users. - Ability to interact effectively with highly technical personnel and with a wide variety of technical resources. - Strong problem solving and analytical skills required. - Experience developing software applications utilizing the Agile SDLC methodology is desired. - Any hands-on technical experience utilizing any if the following *IBM Websphere* software products is desired: Portal Server; WCM; BPM Suite/Process Server; Infosphere Federation Server; Business Glossary; Information Analyzer; Integration Bus/MB; or WSRR. - Hands-on technical experience using the following tools, techniques, technology platforms, and/or software products is desired : *JAVA/J2EE, JSP, JMS, XML, AJAX, Javascript, CSS, SQL*, BPM, Eclipse, Apache, Tomcat, and Red Hat Linux running in a VMWare environment. *-------------------------------------------------------------* *Java Developer – Server Side – Messaging, JDBC, JMS * *NYC, NY* *6+ months* *Phone/F2F interview* Although this is a financial client, the client DOES NOT want anyone with recent or past financial experience. Looking for experience working in other domains – ie healthcare, telecom, etc… *Main Duties* The candidate will be involved in full cycle of server development and server side process scripting. *Person Requirements* Must have at least 3 years of strong hands-on programming in core Java, and experience with standard *APIs* like *multi-threading, JDBC, JMS and XML* processing. Should have knowledge of object-oriented design techniques and common design patterns. Should be able to apply multi-threading or distributed server techniques to enhance server throughput and responsiveness. Experience using the *Spring *Framework or similar framework to implement stand-alone servers is a plus. Experience required in relational database technology using *Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle, including SQL*, table design, indexing techniques, stored procedures, transactions and performance optimization. Should be able to access the database via *Java JDBC* and have knowledge of persistence frameworks such as the *IBatis, Hibernate or similar* is desirable. Knowledge of networking utilizing *Java JMS apis and publish/subscribe* messaging systems like Tibco Rendezvous and EMS. Should understand serialization techniques used to exchange object and non-object data over networks between Linux and Windows systems. Should be familiar with Web Services using Java via J2EE or similar framework. Knowledge of maven and ant to build java programs and manage dependencies.
