Title: Unix System Administrator Contract Duration: 6 months + Location: New Haven, Connecticut Phone and In Person required. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and four years of experience supporting production Unix/Linux in a 24/7 environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Deep technical knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems, applications and tools. Experience installing, configuring and tuning Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, and Ruby on Rails. Experience with server virtualization, HA, load-balancing and clustering technologies. *Preferred Skills* Experience with automated installation, configuration management and monitoring such as Kickstart, Cfengine, Tripwire and Nagios. Experience with NIM installation and supporting AIX LPARs. Experience supporting servers running Oracle database applications. Proficiency writing advanced scripts in Shell or Perl. Description: Provide Unix systems administration and technical guidance as part of a team of senior systems administrators supporting mission-critical administrative and academic servers in a dynamic 24/7 data center environment. Administer performance, reliability and security for 300+ Linux and AIX servers providing services in support of the university’s mission of teaching, research and clinical care. Install, configure, document and maintain operating systems, applications and tools including RedHat, AIX, Kickstart, NIM, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, MySQL, OpenLdap, Ruby on Rails, and OpenVZ. Partner with application owners on deployment and planning for their applications. Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, service providers and data center operators on issues and problems. Some off-shift work with rotating on-call coverage.
