*AWS Systems Admin PositionSanta Clara, CA.6+ Months Contract*
The AWS Systems Administrator oversees all aspects of AWS infrastructure
for the development lifecycle and production support of an enterprise
scale, cloud hosted application and other POC applications. The
successful candidate
will be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the
systems deployed in AWS. This will include everything from infrastructure
architecture and design through implementation, administration,
monitoring, maintenance,
migration and support.
*Principal Responsibilities*
Work with Dev and QA teams to design and document infrastructure for
current and new applications in multiple AWS accounts
Install and configure EC2 servers (Windows and Linux) and related
components for development, QA, UAT, and production environments
Design and implement maintenance, monitoring and support solutions for all
EC2 servers, including High Availability and Disaster Recovery plans where
needed
Design, create and manage Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) for segregation of
resources in AWS
Manage the allocation and configuration of common Amazon Services (i.e.
EIPs, ELBs, CloudFormation, CloudFront, and so on)
Design, implement and maintain automation solutions for efficient
deployment of EC2 resources in AWS
Effectively and efficiently supply pricing, sizing and cost modeling for
AWS infrastructure elements on request
Collaborate with developers to evaluate, recommend, plan for, implement and
support 3rd party applications in the AWS environment necessary for AWS
administration
Monitor systems and platforms for availability and performance
Communicate and collaborate regularly with stakeholders in order to ensure
infrastructure availability, integrity, security and optimization
Provide guidance and mentoring to other resources working with the EC2
instances and AWS ecosystem
Clearly and effectively report on the progress of projects assigned
Proactively install, test, evaluate and recommend new AWS and server
technologies
Other duties as assigned
*Knowledge and Skills*
BA/BS degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
Minimum ten years of experience as a Systems Administrator for Windows and
Linux environments
Experience building and supporting infrastructure for a modern Web
application environment including back-end data processing servers,
application servers, web servers, load balancers, and so on
Minimum two years of experience with and a strong working knowledge of the
following AWS technologies
Elastic Compute Cloud instances (EC2)
Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs)
Elastic IP addresses (EIPs)
Storage models (EBS, S3, instance storage)
Elastic Load Balancers (ELBs)
Route 53 DNS service
Access management using security groups and keys
Monitoring and automation solutions (CloudWatch, CloudFormation and
OpsWorks, for example)
Experience designing and implementing high availability and disaster
recovery solutions
Strong familiarity with AWS server types and pricing/performance models
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing leadership
where needed
Excellent communication skills
