[Savannah-hackers-public] [task #13173] Chromium vs. Savannah mens

Follow-up Comment #4, task #13173 (project administration):

Here's the exact steps I used to reproduce this issue!
# set http://savannah.gnu.org/task/?13173
# su - nobody -c 'LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.UTF-8 HOME=/tmp/$$ chromium '$@&
Then put the mouse upon e.g., Tasks in the
"Main Homepage Support Mailing Lists Source Code Tasks News"
line above, and attempt to even click on the "Browse" item contained!
The drop down menu disappears before you even get a chance!

Follow-up Comment #1, task #13173 (project administration):

All I know is I had to do
$ su - nobody
to get it working on a clean account.
Not even doing chromium --temp-profile worked on my current account here on
debian with chromium Version 33.0.1750.152 Debian jessie/sid (256984)

Details:

Please test that the menus still work in chromium.
E.g. one sees above "Main Homepage Support ..."
Well in Chromium Version 33.0.1750.152 Debian jessie/sid (256984)
the moment one moves the mouse down to look into their drop-down menus, that
menu disappears! One must use a different browser to report anything.

I also noticed that Savannah was slower than typical at this time of
day. At other times of day it is typical for Savannah to be even
slower than this.

I noticed from IRC just a moment ago that the FSF admins were
answering other people's questions about slow VMs and the answer came
back that the dom0 was doing a raid sync, six more hours predicted to
go from now. We are on the edge for I/O normally so that will brown
out the VMs while it is running.

Ah, well, doesn't matter either way. Except I know that nothing
changed on the savannah end. :-) Must just be the slower than normal
operations due to the raid sync today that is on the enge of timing out.

I will submit a task ticket to do this so that it isn't forgotten.

I was logged in, yes. I didn't try logging out.

But now it started working for me. When I just tried it took a while
with "Connecting..." but finally came back with the page (previously it
would come back with an error page), and now when I do it it works
quickly.

So, either there was something wrong on my end or else someone fixed it!

Thanks Bob. FWIW, I agree that it would be good to change the email
link address...

PS. I am using Chromium, and the only plugins I have wouldn't impact
this: flashblock and adblock basically.

Thank you for reporting this problem. However this always works fine
for me. But I think we have different environments. Does being
logged in versus not logged in change this in any way?

When I am logged in the page always redirects to the https version of
the page. When not logged in it simply works with the http version of
the page. I just now tested a few combinations and I didn't see
problems either way.

Or else there is something wrong on your side of the browser that
isn't a problem for other people. :-) :-)

But that doesn't mean that there isn't actually a problem. I tested
using Firefox and Chromium. What browser are you using? Do you have
a plugin that might be affecting things such as BetterPrivacy or
something similar? Can you test some other combinations on other
systems and see if it might be a plugin?

In principle I think it would be a good idea to change that link in
the email to the https version anyway.

[Savannah-hackers-public] http not working for savannah.gnu.org ... ?

2014-03-28 Thread Paul Smith
Hi all;

The bug email, etc. I get from Savannah all uses an HTTP URL:

  http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?1

However, right now if I click on that link my browser cannot connect.

If I change the URL to use an HTTPS URL:

  https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?1

then it works fine. Either Savannah's email etc. should be fixed to
prefer the HTTPS form, or else the forwarding of HTTP to HTTPS should be
fixed up, or else both should be supported...

Cheers!
