I'm with you there. A history of violence is a masterpiece. I keep meaning
to watch Eastern Promises, but the reviews... even the good one make it seem
like a science experiment, so I have not gotten around to it

All sci fi is derivative. Much of the shows you outlined are either Robinson

I loved the extended ending. I shudder to think what audiences would have
thought if they had gone with the book's ending and included the scouring of

I dropped a review here back when I saw it. Someone in the group said my review
was cold and clinical, and didn't make them want to see the movie. I think i
got the tone right, 'cause the movie left me feeling that way. Not bad, per se,

I think we just have different tastes or be different ages. Yeah, all scifi is

another note to the song, the way Star Trek's focus on humanity in space was a

I agree. Every single critic--and many movie goers--has criticized the ending.
Most wanted it to end with Aragorn being crowned, the crowd then bowing to the
Hobbits, and that's it. But to leave out the lingering effects of Frodo's wound
and soul weariness, to leave out the fact he and Bilbo as

The almost detached way that Eastern Promises plays out can be pretty hard to
get into the first time. But there is a lot of story left for the characters
and I want to see how it plays out.

Sadly, I didn't even need to look at the titles to know that the Taint of Youth
is all over this selection process. Most of these books, as has been said
before, are X-titles or very recent releases. If, IMO, they had bothered to

successful, IMO. The first fans to see it would've spread the news like
wildfire, and poisoned any future viewers.

The folks behind the American version made it a point to end it differently. I
read that much in another of my groups. Strangely, thinking on it now, no one
there has commented a word about the end of it, good or bad. Makes me wonder if

Bosco, your last is a sentiment I can easily get behind. And the really scary
thing in this is that RDM did such fantastic work on DS9. Maybe that was his
zenith, and we're sitting witness to his nadir.
