Tonight's episode of Real Time with Bill Maher (which I watched at 3:00 am
this morning)focused on the Henry Louis Gates imbroglio and featured some
hilarious takes. Some examples:
President Obama regrets saying stupid. What he meant was retarded!
What kind of thief breaks into a house with
I am trying to write this without giving away anything, but I have to admit
that I was moved by this mini-series. It is thought provoking and intense.
After hearing the director's thoughts behind this mini-series it really
brings up a lot of issues that are rarely touched on by the media.

This is the best Torchwood miniseries to date.
4.5 stars out of 5.

Again, Mr Worf, IMO, this stems directly from the H'Wood mindset, or lack
thereof.

how well is well? Does it depend on the part of town you'd live in? Will 75K
work for the part of town where an actor tends to live?
I agree with the statement do. less and less, real talent is valued in H'Wood.
I think that's one reason where you do find quality shows--like on HBO, TNT,
Funny. I'm still trying to figure out why, in the midst of all this talk to
determine if the cop is racist, no one is talking about the *caller* who
started this. Even Obama, in discussing this, stated it may not be racial
profiling by the cops, but that people of color have a history with

never ever let my daughter fry like that. You can argue it was the right thing
to do, but as the 456 so bluntly stated: a child dies every 3 seconds on earth.

I was surprised by the blow back on this issue. I shouldn't have been, but I
was. What people chose to miss is that Ms. Broderick, even with a
three-quarter reduction in her income, is one of the lucky ones. At the rates
she mentioned, she would have to snag 9 to 13 acting jobs in a single

The thing that I loved most about the miniseries was that they didn't pull any
punches and Captain Jack was shown to be all too fallible. Jack made an
arrogant mistake that cost him dearly and the final sacrifice was even more
devastating. I'm glad they didn't go with a deus ex machina ending
Keith, one of my first thoughts into that was the concept that this woman
didn't know who her own neighbor was. Admittedly, I know three of the
fifty-seven families on my street by name (and I'm the block captain for this
part of my subdivision), but I know *everyone* by face. I know who does
As do I, Keith. Sadly, this is *not* the H'Wood we grew up watching.

I often argue that fiction is truer than non-fiction. These five episodes sum
up the cruel state of the world better than any news report I have ever seen or
read. The machinations of the power elite in Children ape what happens in
caucus, conference and board rooms all over the world,
I agree. The decisions that are made everyday to send a soldier to war
(someone's child) or to their certain death (prison system) is made everyday
in board rooms. Maybe not on the same grand scale but what they do still
effects all of us in some way. We all know about the dirt that our

I agree totally. That was one of the things that popped into my head when
this started. How could you not recognize your neighbor in broad daylight?
(It was 1230 in the afternoon) The only explanation for that is that the
neighbor is almost blind, or the neighbor was trying to get rid of him.
On
I miss that formula in some ways they still have it on shows like Law and
Order. Character actors have the steadiest incomes in the business next to
the execs, but they are rare.
There isn't an actor part of town in LA. Its a bunch of smaller towns next
to LA where everyone lives in a 100 mile
I agree. She mentioned that there were a lot of jobs that she got scripts
for that didn't pay anything at all. Unless you are really into the project,
how many people here would work for free? I have read some horror stories
about actors that had become famous but were still working regular jobs
What bugs me is I doubt that there are that many houses on the block where
they are. So there isn't any excuse for her or him not to know who he was.

You brought up one of the things that was very true that was in the show.
There are so many people dying everyday on this planet from things like lack
of food or water. The real problem is that we haven't really learned how to
spread and share our resources properly yet. On top of that you have
Worf, Martin totally agree. Gates is a professor at my alma mater, and the

Wish you were in our group back when it aired on SciFi. I wrote a scathing
review of it, as abominable dreck. Several people--most people--in the group
who tried to watch it all but retched.

Wouldn't be surprised, the resemblance is there. I remember the robots in
Silent Running--named Huey, Dewey, and Louie--were operated by double
amputees who could fit into the suits. Strange, odd movie, with Dern doing one
of his many madman portrayals, but a sad movie too. I remember being sad
