Last night, I watched the film "Signs" on DVD. I hadn't seen the theatrical release and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was immediately struck by how it was everything in a good sci-fi story -- aliens, suspense, emotion, discover, fear -- that War of the Worlds tried to be and failed miserably. WOT
