I would not be promoting this show. Please share this far and wide. The
Friday, August 27th performance is charity night. The proceeds from the
ticket sales will benefit the charity Equality Now. There will also be a
canned food drive on the same night to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank.
I will be working the Box Office/House at the Theater throught the run. I
hope to see you there! - Emma]

Unreliable Narrator in collaboration with The Pluto Tapes present
2010: OUR HIDEOUS FUTURE: The Musical
a cyberpunk musical

It’s A.D. 2010, East Coast Metro Zone A, New Malden, a time of
techno-studded blechhiness. Lonely human freedom fighter Kate Brick plans a
last stand against the oppressive Artas, artificial life forms who control
humankind through torture, brainwashing, and Facebook. But judging by the
apathy of her lover Dehnise Compuserve and of her fellow humans, it may be
too late.

2010: Our Hideous Future: The Musical! features Kamela Dolinova, Emily
Taradash, Julia Lunetta, Timothy Hoover, John Deschene, Kay Coughlin, Katie
Drexel, Ginger Lazarus, and Will Todisco.

2010: Our Hideous Future: The Musical! is the second collaboration between
the Unreliable Narrator Theater Group and The Pluto Tapes. On March 30, 2010
they presented Un-Vaudeville, an evening of comedy, music and performance
art featuring local acts at Johnny D’s in Somerville, Massachusetts.

[scifinoir2] Re: Thoughts on Revenge of the Sith--Spoilers

2005-05-26 Thread Emma Lathan
Liked:
The visuals of course.

The fight scenes for the most part. Yoda was a trip. The war on
Kashyyyk was cool as of course the battle in the lava. ( I also agree,
Jedi powers must be really strong for them to survive that atmosphere
just by standing there.) I liked that R2D2 showed some skills.

That there was one main thread that made sense. (Anakin becomes Vader
that is the essence of the story)

Obiwan. For some reason, Ewan MacGregor made him more likable to me.

Not crazy about:
Admittedly, I have only watched in total 10 minutes of Episode II so
clearly I missed some things. My main problem with the movie was that
the reasons given as to why Anakin becomes Darth Vader were just not
compelling enough for me. I felt that there were reasons thrown out
but the internal logic was not there for me. At least, even if I
bought the whole he wanted to learn of the dark side to save Padme
because he could not save his mother, why take out everyone at the
Jedi Temple? Sure Mace is a traitor but not all of the Jedi would
be. I feel as if Lucas said, okay...this is the one where he turns
into Darth Vader. Whatever else happens, he has to become Darth Vader
in the end.

I also agree that both Mace and Grevious got punked. I expected
better deaths for them. Mace's I can excuse-he did not see Anakin
rising against him. Grevious, who routinely kicked Obiwan's butt and
spectacularly as well, gets taken out by a laser blast...come on...

Padme wins the useless female award. It's not her fault. Apparently
at times Lucas shows his weakness in maintaining strong female
characters or rather female characters at all. There were two that I
identified as Jedi and they just should have been wear the Star Trek
regulation red shirts in the movie since they were on the screen to be
cannon fodder. Other than Padme, the only other females with anything
like screen time that did not die were Mrs. Organa and Aunt Beru.

The visuals that I liked so much dominated some scenes too much such
as the scenes where characters had extended dialogue. There were
times I did feel like saying, Yes Coruscant is a beautiful and
wonderful place. We get it.

I agree about the Darth Vader N!! Again an example of tacking
on something just to say emotive. If Vader is going to be a badass,
he has to be one all the way.

More Mace. I felt that Sam could have used a bit more screen time.
Then again, he may have gotten in in Clones.

The droids chatterting-the evil ones. They sounded like Alvin and the
Chipmunks infested the ship.

That's all from me.

I'm not going there to die. I just need to know if I was ever really alive.

[scifinoir2] Grey's Anatomy

2005-05-20 Thread Emma Lathan
I have not watched this show as much as I may have wanted to. I did
connect with it immediately-relating to the star's plight instantly or
at least the aspect of having to live up to her mother's reputation.

I was disappointed that the Black woman was one of the typical
stereotypes. The Mutt and Jeff thing that happens with Her and Isiah
Washington's character and the interns gets old.

As for ER, they have had people of color in the cast on the show for
11 years. With the departure of Noah Wyle, they will be the senior
members of the cast in terms of longevity unless they get the chop.
However, ER has never done any episodes that focused on the nurses
unless they were the love interest of one of the doctors and that
means that said nurse is usually white. Even Donal Logue, who was a
walk on, managed to garner a recurring role as a flight nurse by being
romantically involved with Dr. Lewis gets more screen time and story
arc than Haleh, Chuny, Malik and the gang. Sure they had Peter
Benton, Deb (Ching Mei) Chen, Jean Boulet, CCH Pounder's character,
Michael Michele's character, Dr. Gallant, Dr. Pratt and Neela. So
what.
Some of them had their moments. Others were a footnote. All were in
when they needed to cave to diversity pressure. I inadvertantly taped
the episode when Pratt and Gallant were picked up by the picked for
driving while Black. I dubbed that the Black History Month episode
since if came along for February sweeps.

I honestly hate Dr. Pratt. He is another stereotype. I liked Gallant
better and felt that he got short schriff when Pratt came on.
Apparently, Michael Michelle's character was the only Black woman
doctor they could find in Chicago. Lynne Adams' nurse (the one that
rubbed Carol the wrong way at her clinic and who ended up with the
clinic after Carol again did something stupid because of Doug) just
faded away.

Back to Grey's Anatomy. It is good that they are doing more but just
like with Star Trek and Star Wars, I will really get excited when
they have a Black woman main character (in this case it would be
doctor) who is interesting and not in crisis or a drill sergeant
(although I don't mind that so much as that usually is all there is)
and who gets interesting storylines and who is not Halle Berry or
Thandie Newton (as much as I do like her.)

I'm not going there to die. I just need to know if I was ever really alive.
