RE: [sdre-l]: Jeremy Voice Comparison

2000-05-12 Thread Amy Lett

I was... Listening to Death Cab for Cutie last night, and I was thinking
Gibbard's voice sounded kind of like Jeremy's. I mean, he "stole" the idea
of "Fallen Heart" to end Airplanes, why not sound like high-pitched,
slightly-nasal-Jeremy too? Nah, but that guy has great voice, that DCFC
guy.

I played "How it Feels" for my brother last

  off pissed, cause I just
remembered "Been Caught Stealing". Then he played me
  this song called "3

  to say, in that very
song, I hear more influence on SDRE than on any

Listen to that song, and try to tell me every member

2000-05-11 Thread Aaron A. Chernak

can anyone think of someone who sounds like jeremy? just wondering.

At times, Jeff Buckley can sound Jeremy-ish. I could definately see SDRE
covering one of his songs. I wonder if the lads are familiar with the late
great Jeff. There would be a fitting tribute if SDRE honored Jeff by
recording one of his songs. I could easily see them doing The Sky is a Land
Fill.

[sdre-l]: Jeremy's Voice...

2000-05-11 Thread Mike Wiegand

Peoples,

First of all...i am so sorry,
but i can't hear Jeremy at all in Jane's
Addiction. Second of all, comparing his voice to
others is simply absurd.
The first time i heard jeremy sing (on "Digging
Deep" by PoorOldLu) i
almost cried because it was so rediculously
unique...in all my days of
listening to all types of music, i have never ever
heard a voice like his...
when listening to him it is apparent who his
influences are...(Beatles,
Syd Barrett) but he takes all his influences and
amalgamates their
styles into his own...so any time he is even close
to being able to be
compared to someone else...their influence is so
subtle that you are
forced to say that you can't possibly compare
them.

I'm out...
Mike (the Lord master of all that is
skinnyness)

[sdre-l]: jeremy's voice in relation to lollapalooza

2000-05-10 Thread PayTreOtic

His natural, octave-jumping falsetto is like none other in rock
 today.

i was in my favorite record store the other day and i asked this guy if he
liked sunny day. he said no because jeremy "has the same voice as that guy
from porno for pyros". i tried to object but the guy wouldn't listen. has
anyone else heard this comparison? i've heard the lennon/enigk similiarities
but never anyone else. can anyone think of someone who sounds like jeremy?
just wondering.

[sdre-l]: that voice

1999-10-23 Thread mother brain

Hello to all of you,
I think jeremy's voice is maturing nicely, but if I had to complain
about two things on the cd it would be that he doesn't scream like
on the studio albums--completely unerstable, I must say--and Joe Bass'
tone just isn't up to it on some songs, especially j'nuh. I really
love that meaty sound that Nate had on the album. Other than that,
it is all a first-rate, capital show. I cannot stop listening to
Days were Golden. I've never heard anything more touching than that
song performed live. I don't think it makes me feel sadness, it's
more along the lines of pity. But to be completely honest, I can
see why the band might have wanted to do something different with
the video, it's a bit lackluster in production, a good show, but I
think the band would have wanted to do something more artsy, a la Meeting
People is Easy. I'm really upset that Sub Pop didn't put
on the encore too. Oh well, I'm thankful for what I do have.
Let's see...My playlist:
SDRE--Live
Godspeed you black emperor!--slow riot for a new zero kanada e.p.
The Smiths--Louder than bombs
Jimmy Eat World--Static Prevails
Hum--Puppets
Bye.
