hey listers, just a few things to mention, respond to, etc went to the show last night in seattle, and i thought they did a pretty solid job. i could tell they were a bit rusty at times, as they just didn't seem quite as "on" as i'd seen them in the past. the touring bass player...someone said they didn't do justice to the old lines. sounded to me pretty much like he played exactly what was on the records. which is good and bad i think. but whatever. "in circles" just didn't sound right in standard tuning. especially the bass part on the beginning and between parts. they had like 15 guitars sitting next to the stage. maybe they just forgot to switch or something, but they should definitely do that from now on. as for will's drumming on "8", i gotta respectfully disagree with the person who said will went even crazier than he did on the album. i was standing there basically waiting for him to do fills, watching him, expecting the cool rolls he does during the choruses and the "sweet clover" parts, but he never did them. probably my biggest reason for liking that song is the way the drums and bass go together on parts like that, and that was just totally missing for me at the show. i still dug hearing the song live for the first time, but it was just missing something ya know? oh yeah, and whoever was doing soundchecks for them.for crying out loud, sound check dan's microphone before the show! i couldn't hear a word he sang. mind you he only sang on two of the songs, but still! "in circles" and "8" suffered greatly because of not being able to hear his vocals, in my opinion anyways. anyways, that's about it for me. my head is dizzy right now for no apparent reason so i should go lie down. take care everyone. john p.s.- for the guy who asked, TSMAP stands for "thief steal me a peach", an early SDRE 7" record. p.p.s.- my roommate wrote an article about the show for the Western Front (western washington's newspaper), so anyone who lives up here in b'ham check that out. and if anyone wants to see a copy let me know and i can send it either personally or to the list, whatever. =) Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

so what's the story??? is Joe really out of SDRE??? ya No Knife rocks a lot. i'm fortunate enough for them to be from here (san diego) so i've been able to see them a few times. you'll love Hitman Dreams (the previous album). At their last show (Jejune headlined and it was their last show, Jim Adkins happened to be there and so he closed no knife's set off singing Charming for them while Mitch stepped off the stage. Jim IS a rock star. Reguardless of how the sound conditions were at This Ain't No Picnic, i enjoyed sdre so much. my friends and i kept our spot through sleater-kinney, superchunk and i think rftc i can't remember. we forgot to get more water or food (so expensive!) so i thought i was going to die by the time sdre came on but when they played it all went away. just the music and me. i don't get what the boredoms are all about... anybody know?? i don't see what the big deal was with them... oh well. jason np:ChristieFrontDrive

blah blah blah I'm glad the list is back. Am I the only one who thinks that they really needed "How it Feels to be Something on" to be on the live album? I forget who posted it, but I agree: I don't think they'd need a demo tape. Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that SDRE is now owned by AOL? I agree with Matt, go see Magnolia. charles. = [EMAIL PROTECTED] ..wagner = AOLIM TheMadLord .theory. = http://theoryband.tripod.com/ ...np... = Engine Kid, "Angel Wings" __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

good to see the list up again as for napster...its a great program for mp3 sharing and so forth. i leave my computer on most of the time and i have most of the stuff of off the old sdre audio archive along with some of their performance from a kroq acoustic christmas. my computers name is sdrejoe sdre did make a demo tape to shop around for potential producers on the new album, not potential labels. so does anyone know who they settled on for a producer if they really left for the studio? i was actually really pissed that the live cd didn't have hiftbso and roses in water on it, as they did play the songs at that show, but all my complaining about that will do nothing now. that is all for now. joe
Re: [sdre-l]: various
no matter who you are or what label you're on, if you want to reccord new songs, the label is going to want to hear what you plan to record.. they want to know what they're fixing to pay for.. so, whether or not they were "shopping around" a demo is irrelevant.. there has got to be some demo of the new stuff out there somewhere.. work tapes, whatever.. oh, and if it hasn't been mentioned yet, there' s a band on time bomb calle No Knife that you should all check out.. new album is called "fire in the city of the automatons".. good stuff. cheers, josh --- "charles wagner." I believe I read in an interview with SDRE from http://www.buddyhead.com that they said themselves they were shopping themselves around by sending demo's to labels and such. I dunno maybe I was wrong. But I been awake for 24 hours. heh. "charles wagner." wrote: blah blah blah I'm glad the list is back.
