 Hi Ganesh,

I wrote this down a while back when I was figuring out how to get SoaS to
register and backup with an XS, hope this helps you.

The registration process begins when an XO laptop user clicks on the
avatar and then clicks Register from the drop down menu. This action
 executes */usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/jarabe/desktop/schoolserver.py
*. This python script gathers the following required information from the
XO laptop in order to register with the schoolserver :

- serial number
- nickname
- uuid
- SSH pubkey

I had upgraded and test on the xo build OS-802. I check the given path for
school server */usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ *there I don't find
jarabe directory.

Also, the registering of XO to server still big hassle for me. It's very
important for me to bind all the XO to the Server.

Please give me suggestion how to overcome this problem.

This data is sent via xmlrpc over port 8080 to the Identity Manager service
on the school server. The identity manager is a python script located in
*/usr/bin/registration-server* on the school server. This service
receives the information and validates the serial number. The information is
then inserted into an sqlite3 database. It will then send back the following
 information to the XO laptop.

- success
- backupurl
- backuppath
- jabberserver

 Added to wiki at
 http://wiki.laptop.org/go/School_Identity_Manager#XO_registration_process
  .

The other content on that page probably should be reviewed as it has not
been updated significantly since November 2008.

Re: [Server-devel] How to access site files quickly?

2010-07-05 Thread David Leeming
I am sorry, I sent this prematurely. Can I add some clarity

As I understand, OLPC is build on the principle of openness. When the
technology turns on itself and prevents the positive impacts, we must look
again at it.

We have some bona fide requirements to do what I am asking, in real life
situations attempting to build the capacity of national education
departments in my region, and we can't allow the technology to set the
agenda. It should rather enable what we need to do with the skill set/pool
that is available.

The server is nothing without content - and we have to make it easy to share
content (including uploading ad downloading without rigid contextual
frameworks)

List,

Is there a possibility of uploading to Site files in bulk (by administrators
aware of the risks)?

Thanks.

 Hello Sameer

We need to do this in bulk. How do we copy/transfer files to the Site
Files in bulk. In our case, a workshop produced many files uploaded. It
is
not practicable to have to download it all individually. We also need to
be
able to upload to Moodle in bulk. In the meantime we continue to use
public
folders as a less attractive alternative outside of Moodle.

Hi David,

My understanding is that bulk upload is typically discouraged because
each upload needs to have at least one context (context of a course,
assignment, etc) whereas a bulk upload simply throws all files into a
folder. Having said that, here's what I found.
http://www.moodleblog.org/?p=178 Both the video and the comment on
this page points to the same caution of bulk upload. Maybe Martin can
point to something better?

The files uploaded via Moodle are usually visible under the Site Files
link. You should be able to download it from there. You may have to
transfer
the files from the journal to the USB stick. Drag and drop the file in the
Journal to the USB icon in the bottom panel in the Journal.

Does this imply that the XS is set to back up all XOs by default, or
must the backup service be explicitly activated?

The machines we intend to use are good enough to facilitate
registration and collaboration, but don't have drives big enough to
back up all of the XOs.
