Can the BIOS see the hard drives? If you don't know if the machine itself is working outside the hard drives, have you tried booting from a Linux rescue CD? Some folks like Knoppix for that. I tend to use Ubuntu NBR (cause I usually have that CD on top of the stack). But there are a myriad of Linux live CDs out there. If you can get into a live Linux boot, ls /dev and see if you see your hard drives. If you don't see them, or can't boot into Linux from a CD, then it's time to break the box down and reconnect the drives. Or check the power supply. I've run into so many hardware issues with the old stuff I work with, I can't even keep track of how many problems I've had. Hard drives give me special trouble. If I can actually see the stubborn drives in /dev, I'll use gparted or fdisk to format to a single fat32 partition. Then the XS install usually picks it up. Hi all, The problem faced here is that, when you power the XS server you can see that the server has been powered and the power light is ON, however, there is NO DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN. Dudley, Do you hear any beeps when you power on the system? Can yWhat procedures have you attempted to diagnose the problem? ou describe the hardware you are using in a bit more detail? This requires hardware support, and isn't really a problem to do with the server software. I've worked in hardware support diagnosis in the past, so I can suggest some methods. But really it takes diagnosis in person or over the phone or via chat ... many questions and answers are needed. Knowledge of the particular hardware model would be critical. To give you an idea of how I would proceed: 1. check that the power supply is generating power for the motherboard, 1.a. if there is a power supply fan and it is not running, the answer is certainly no, 1.b. if there is a power supply LED and it is off, the answer is certainly no, 1.c. if there is a motherboard power LED and it is off, the answer is probably no, 1.d. if there is a front panel LED for power, and it is on, the answer is probably yes, 1.e. if the hard drive can be heard to spin up, the answer is probably yes, 1.f. if a CD drive can be ejected, the answer is probably yes, 1.g. if a USB peripheral with a power LED indicates power, the answer is probably yes. 2. check that the BIOS is executed by the CPU, 2.a. if there is a beep, the answer is probably yes, 2.b. if there is a series of beeps in a pattern, the answer is probably yes, though the pattern should be analysed, 2.c. if there is a screen image showing a BIOS startup, the answer is certainly yes. 2.d. if there is no evidence of BIOS startup at all, then there is a possibility that damage has been made to the memory or motherboard. ... Some things you could try, in order to gather information about the problem: a. remove and reinsert the display cable, b. check the display has power, c. remove the IDE cable and try again (this tests to see if the drive itself is causing BIOS not to start), d. check the strapping of the IDE drive. -- James Cameron http://quozl.linux.org.au/ ___ Server-devel mailing list Server-devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/server-devel
Re: [Server-devel] OLPC XS- Not booting
There were no beeps. If there were beeps then it would have given me some clue on Memory or VGA but there was none. I tried recconnecting the IDE HDD a number of times but that didn't help. Besides that the server is running on an e-Box3 -D82.Version 1.3 RoHS. Finally there are no lights indecating HDD activity, its only the power light.(Mini PC) Thank you, Dudley On Fri, Nov 12, 2010 at 8:53 AM, rihoward1 rihowa...@gmail.com wrote: Dudley, Do you hear any beeps when you power on the system? [Server-devel] Server Installation Guide
Hi all, I have installed XS server nicely and configured the domain using /etc/sysconfig/olpc-scripts/domain_config example.org Now I should be able to connect my XO using the wireless Access Point. However, that does not work. Can some one post me a step by step detaled OLPC XS server installation guide.
