Re: [Server-devel] wwwoffle?
Hi Dan! Welcome to the jungle! I'm in the middle of prepping an XS release, and yes, wwwoffle would be a nice thing to include. If you search the list archives (google for 'site:lists.laptop.org/pipermail/server-devel wwwoffle') Anna has written a bit of a howto and was keep on working towards making it a script to run. She's interested in this as well, maybe you can collaborate? Another really interesting project would be to hop over to the httpd-crcsync list, and offer a hand with it. Background: wiki.laptop.org/go/Apache_Proxy_CRCsync . Alex tells me it's ready to be packaged, so that's step one, with a couple of sample configs inclded as documentation. And we'd need a script that sets it up as downstream server, and another one for the upstream server. And probably a few more things I'm not thinking of right now ;-) cheers, m On Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 7:44 PM, Dan Zubey dzu...@openincident.com wrote: Hi. I'm jumping in with my feet into the XS server environment; I'd like to help out where needed. I found the doc http://wiki.laptop.org/go/XS_Project_Ideas which is rather dated, but mentions the need for wwwoffle. I'm wondering if that's still a felt need where I could lend a hand, or if there's a different area I could focus? I tried to get it to work the other day on my test server, but ran into an issue because port 8080 is already being used by Jabber's http-bind. I tried to get it to work the other day on my test server Ah true, it was Andra! I'm all mixed up... Yes... it was me. I input the WWWOFFLE for unreliable or intermittent internet connections section of the XS Techniques and Configuration. I am running wwwoffle on an XS in Kenya, and it is helping out a lot. In fact, we have loaded up a ton of educational site pages to the XS while on high speed connection, and all this material is available to the students even when the XS is offline, which is most of the time. We have created courses in Moodle where the topics are groupings of educational categories, and each educational site is add to the topic as a link to a website resource. As you can tell from the method I used, it is a manual process, and Martin has asked me to work on making it a little more integral to the build, so that a script can take care of switching between Squid and wwwoffle for instance. I have not had the time to develop this yet, and will be going back to Kenya soon. I hope to carve out some time soon, but if you want to jump in, that would be great.
