Re: [Server-devel] xs-otp tarball pkg?
George, Apologies for top posting but easier with this pocket computer. A bit of coincidence I was going to email Daniel Drake this evening regarding a few XS related items as a follow up to the last olpc-sf meeting discussion of XS and vagaries of the git tree.. I have been working on porting XS to arm for a while. The main problem in the past was the earlier versions of fedora for arm did not have sufficient packages to fully support the XS. it did provide me with opportunity to prove that arm was capable of running the important components. Fortunately f17 will provide all the bits needed to make progress.with this. Fedora 17 in of itself is quite different from centos as centos is based on f13. F17 for arm has not yet reached beta and is a moving target. I am not quite sure what you mean by Trimslice native compiler as that is not a meaningful architecture description for a compiler. Use fed pkg means just that typically. I need to get back to work. Watch for my follow up email. Regards, Robert p.s.rememeber to come to olpc-sf community summit 2012 - Original message - Hi all, I've finally got my arm compiler verified, and booted my first ARM kernel on an XO (using a Trimslice native compiler and fedora 17). So now I'm trying to repackage all the XS packages for ARM. I don't know enough to interpret the cryptic comment in the changelog of the xs-otp git repository at https://dev.laptop.org/git/users/martin/xs-otp/ - use fedpkg. I've googled for a fedora package with xs-otp unsuccessfully. When git only includes the spec file, is there a conventional place to look for the source tarball? For most of the packages, I've taken the easy way out, and used DDrake's source rpms at http://xs-dev.laptop.org/xsrepos/stable/olpc/xs-0.7/source/as a basis for my arm rebuilds. But I'm wondering what diff's there might be with the git directories, and/or if I should be trying to reconcile his builds with what's at https://dev.laptop.org/git/. Re: [Server-devel] OLPC XS- Not booting
Dudley, Do you hear any beeps when you power on the system? Can yWhat procedures have you attempted to diagnose the problem? ou describe the hardware you are using in a bit more detail? Robert - Original message - Hi all, The problem faced here is that, when you power the XS server you can see that the server has been powered and the pwer light is ON, however, there is NO DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN. Thank you, Dudley On Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 6:04 PM, Anna ascho...@gmail.com wrote: On Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 12:38 AM, Dudley Daduwe ddaduwe.olpc...@gmail.com wrote: Thank you for the updates on the motherboard. Please advise me as to how I could troobleshoot my E-Box server. Previously I was able to connect the IDE and boot up.However, I decided to remove the original IDE HDD and put and new IDE HDD onto the server. After doing that I was not able to see any activity on the screen for about 5 minutes. So I decided to put back the original IDE HDD but still does not show any activity. Looking at the HDD LED display, I could not see any activity taking place. How can I get the server back to boot with a display on the screen. Dudley Daduwe Can you get into BIOS? Can the BIOS see the hard drives? If you don't know if the machine itself is working outside the hard drives, have you tried booting from a Linux rescue CD? Some folks like Knoppix for that. I tend to use Ubuntu NBR (cause I usually have that CD on top of the stack). But there are a myriad of Linux live CDs out there. If you can get into a live Linux boot, ls /dev and see if you see your hard drives. If you don't see them, or can't boot into Linux from a CD, then it's time to break the box down and reconnect the drives. Or check the power supply. I've run into so many hardware issues with the old stuff I work with, I can't even keep track of how many problems I've had. Hard drives give me special trouble. If I can actually see the stubborn drives in /dev, I'll use gparted or fdisk to format to a single fat32 partition. Then the XS install usually picks it up. [Server-devel] ARM based XS ?
Martin, Looks like the Marvell OpenRd Client is finally shipping. http:// www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-21-openrd-client.aspx I know Fedora now has a ARM branch. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ Architectures/ARMHow difficult would it to be to spin an XS build for ARM? Depending on your answer I may order a Marvell OpenRd Client to experiment with. /Robert H. ___ Server-devel mailing list Server-devel@lists.laptop.org http://lists.laptop.org/listinfo/server-devel
